Any recommendations for XBox One/360 games for 8-10 yo

Hi guys,

Can anyone recommend any good XBox One/360 games for an 8-10 yo kid?
I'd prefer something non-violent or just silly.

Games that we liked:

  • Unravel - fantastic game, pretty much best game he (we) played
  • Ori and the Blind Forest - great game but quickly became way to hard and we got stuck
  • Trials Fusion - great
  • WRC racing - great but a bit repetitive even if you keep doing different tracks

Thanks, CT.

    Rayman's Legend

Agreed, Max: The Curse of Brotherhood is another good side-scroller for kids. My kids really enjoy racing games too, i.e. Forza. And the Lego games are always a favourite.

      • +1

Agreed. I love the graphics in Max and even I got stuck into that game (more-so than my 7 year old nephew I think). It can also be found for less than $2 on eBay for the Xbox One edition so it's really a no brainer.

        • That sold it … $2.71 :) $ I just started the download. Thanks.

      GTA is R18+
      I need games for 8-10yo not 18yo :)

Sorry. Lego games, Croft Croft, Burnout Paradise, Rayman Legends, Forza Horizon?

What is with all the negs? Heaps of 10 yo play GTA V

      • +6

Yeah what's wrong with letting your 10 yo shoot a couple hookers at a stripclub anyway?

      • Don't breed.

    minecraft

Surprised this wasn't the first answer.
      Also, Terraria.

      • Minecraft and Terraria are my favs. to recommend. Disney Infinity is not bad either for kids.

Dont give kids GTA.. Try Lego games.

Lego Star Wars, Harry Potter (My Personal Favourite), Jurassic World. Not sure if Indiana Jones is on XBox One.

    Minecraft is good.

Forza games, Any sports simulation games like Tennis, PGA or Cricket.

Another +1 for Lego games. Unlimited lives so not as frustrating :P

  • Braid is a really nice puzzle game. Think of Mario, but it's about time manipulation.

Brothers: tale of Two sons is also a very good multiplayer game (couch-coop.) It's designed to be played with two players for the best experience.

Do note it's PEGI 16, so I guess some parental guidance is required.

    • I tried Braid. Nice but found it a bit confusing :)
Brothers: a Tale of Two Sons - seems to be rated M. I might try it before I hand it over :)

Portal 1 and Portal 2 I guess, also devoid of most violence, mostly puzzle solving. Will require good skills though.

Kerbel Space Program is also educational.

        • Portal 1 is available for XBOX, but not Portal 2.
          KSP is PC only AFAIK.

      • I think brothers is fine for a 10 year old, though it is quite a sad story

    • Brothers is not a co op game. It is very much designed for one player. That said I do highly recommend it but has some very adult themes and wouldn't say it appropriate in this case.

      • Well it's one thumbstick for each character, OR one controller for each character. It can be played Solo — it's in my Steam library but connecting two gamepads allows for independant movement of the two brothers.

and I suppose the themes are a little dark (player death is possible)

        • Interesting. I remember them stating that it's for one player but they must have added in the two player support. An 8 year old could probably play it but wouldn't really understand or appreciate the themes. It's a bit upsetting at times to say the least.

But it's not a long game and would suggest OP play through it himself and complete it first (it's only a few hours)

Again. This is like an amazing game though. Easily in my top ten of all time.

I would highly recommend Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris. It's an action/puzzler for 1 to 4 players. There are guns in it I guess but it's pretty tame in that regard. Just shooting monsters etc.

    • I really enjoyed that game when I was that age (10ish) but it has some demonic themes for like 2 seconds.

      • I guess so but I would say it's themes are much lighter then cartoons of that age bracket.

Just looked it up. It's PG. Course language though?

        • Yeah probably just some tough marines being tough.

  • I so wanna say Rare Replay but the existence of Bad Fur Day makes it hard :(

    • There's 29 other games on the disc suitable for the kid. Plus VIVA PINATA.

    • I played Conker's Bad Fur Day when I was ten. It was quoting it at school that got me in trouble :D

(Also, if Jet Force Gemini is on there too, it gets pretty splattery lol)

My nephew loves SKATE 3, its all he plays
    +1 for LEGO Star Wars
open world/Sandbox driving games like Burnout Paradise and NFS Most wanted 2.

Limbo, Mutant Blobs from Space, Plants vs Zombies.

  • Ducktales was on xbox one a few days ago. I picked it up cheap for my son. Hes four and just dives in the coins.
On the slightly more expensive side
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/260815 thanks to trent86 - for lego dimensions for $68. But I agree on all the lego games.

I work in a kids hospital and we have a few games for kids. The most popular ones are FIFA and minecraft. Some other gems are Doritos crash course (which is like wipeout the tv show) is excellent and FREE. Joy ride turbo and Motorcross madness are both great too. Both of those easy to play and quite cheap. All 3 of those are backwards compatible. Max is great. Rocket league is also awesome. Disney infinity is good fun too and can be quite cheap if you can find a bargain. Depending on what sport they're into don Bradmans cricket is good (can be a bit difficult) rugby league live is fun as is nba2k series. But as in real life those sports games are more fun with 2 people.

  • If your kid likes to do, and achieve, lots of nothing then how about No Man's Sky.

    • It's a PS4 exclusive, not on XBO/360 unfortunately.

    • Skylanders now that you can get the figurines for next to nothing for the older games. Also Disney Infinity. (Lego Dimensions has too many little parts and is way too expensive but my kids liked that one too for a while).
    • I'll second the driving games, Doritos Crash Course (although DCC can get frustrating) and the Lego games.
    • Banjo Kazooie.
    • Smurfs.

Apologies if this offends anyone but I've found it to be true for my kids:
    - Girls will love Dancing games (Kids Dance) and Singing Games (Lips, if you can find the microphones)
    - I know you said non-violent but boys will love the Street Fighter style fighting games.

  • If I said Halo, would that make me a bad parent? :o

    • A great source for assessing a general consensus/overview of what age is suitable for various medias (games, movies, books, etc) is: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/

      I highly recommend it.

  • You can buy these three:

LEGO Star Wars: The force Awakens
    Disney Infinity 3.0
    Plants Vs Zombies

  • Lego games, FIFA
