Which Dyson Vacuum I Should Buy?

I want to buy a new vacuum and I am thinking of Dyson. It's so popular and got a lot of good reviews. However, there are so many different models out there and I don't know which one I should get? Anyone has any suggestions? I want a portable one and I got carpet and pet at home. I planned to get the V6 Animal but it is quite expensive. The DC45 looks cheap but I don't know how it compares to V6 model. If anyone has any experience, please help me to choose a budget model to get the job done. Thank you very much for your help in advance.

  • When we bought out place the Mrs wanted a Dyson. I was dead against it as they are very expensive. In the end i gave in and im glad i did. I have this model http://www.dyson.com.au/vacuum-cleaners/uprights/dc65.aspx and its great. Has so much power and picks any and everything up.

Only issue i find is to get into corners you need to pull the stick out of the vacuum it is a little annoying but other than that its a great machine.

The DC44 Animal was $349 at Big W just recently (might still be going, but wasn't a lot of stock at our local store a week ago. similar pricing elsewhere I think). The animal has the extra brush head suitable for sucking pet hair from upholstery and stuff like that, not sure how well it works longterm, but then our longer haired dog doesn't go on our lounge so doesn't cause a problem too much. I think the DC44 and DC45 are the same unit, just marketing mumbo jumbo. Someone else might know more.

We have an older Dyson (non-portable) and we haven't needed to use it for the last week. Zipping around with the portable thing works a treat. Also great for getting the kids to help out. In fact we are probably going to put the normal one in storage. I would note that we have a fairly small 3 bedroom house, if you have a largish place the non-portable one might be better if you need more than the 15-20 mins of run time. The V6 seems to advertise the same run time. There is a max power setting on the DC44 that you kind of want to have turned on all the time that reduces the run time further as well (more sneaky marketing tactics).

The only negatives I have with the DC44 are shortish run time (can deal with that) and that the motorised head gets hair stuck in it a lot (3 women in the household with long hair) and you need to pull out the hair a lot to free it up. The most positive thing is just how much fine dust it actually sucks up for such a little unit.

  • I'm a fan of Dysons but it might be worth while reading through this thread as there are some compelling arguments against getting one.

    • Ah that classic thread. He highly recommends Miele's.

      • I took his advice and bought a Miele C2 last time it was on sale at Hardly Normal. It was a real bargain and much better quality than the crappy Kmart vacuum I had been using.

I have a Dyson DC37. It's OK as we only have hard floors, but if I had my time over again I'd get a Miele C2/C3 (ensuring it's a Made in Germany model eg. the C2 Celebration is made in China). I am buying a new vacuum for a relative and am getting the C2 Compact Hard Floor, currently at Myer online for $309

    • You can the genuine Miele filter bags (HyClean brand) cheap on eBay.

    • so they are wired or wireless? I couldn't find that info the website. I hate wired vacuum. If it uses battery, how long the battery last for a full charge?

  • Another vote for Miele - my choice being the C3

      • ?

        • Is it use battery or we need to connect to power point?
