Best Study Desk/Work Table For ~$200?

I have had my study desk from Target (yes I know…) for almost 5 years now and is finally starting to fall apart and becoming unusable. I had got this for around $80 during a sale so it has lasted more than what is was worth, and I am now looking for an upgrade. I really don't know where to start looking for a new one, I have looked at IKEA however majority of them seem to be outside my budget. I can really appreciate some suggestions to help me decide which study desk to buy for my budget. Thanks!

What I am looking for:

  • Practical for a medium sized room
  • Storage for my documents and textbooks
  • Preferably cable management features
  • STURDY!!

Why not try Gumtree for a solid timber one which will be a bit more sturdy.

Head to a vinnies, garage sale or sites like gumtree and buy an old solid wood desk that someone is getting rid of.
Bit of sanding, stain (should you choose) and a varnish and viola! You have a desk that will last a long time and it will be solid!

    • Yes I had a thought of that, however currently my only means of transportation is public transport so it's difficult for me to pick up the desk from other people and bring it back home. I was hoping to buy it from a store and have it delivered to my place. Unless I can organise a ride with my mates I really don't think I can manage to bring a study desk back home with pt. Thanks for the suggestion though! :)

      • If you can manage to spend a bit extra, some gumtree sellers will deliver to you. Can't hurt to ask

        • I'll give it a shot :)

@stuhtb: actually this… I'm still sitting on a couch that a Gummie seller sold to me a couple (5 years back), he delivered it and helped get it inside for $20

What the guy above just said.

Or do what I did at uni: cheapo door from a hardware store + two sawhorses. cable management = a big box of XL bulldog clips.

What about this officeworks desk for $99? You can get it in white too.

This is the same table (at least design wise) I have right now from Target haha. I'm guessing it's generic? I would probably need to do some research on gumtree or IKEA after reading the suggestions. Thanks! :)

    • Thank you! I will definitely consider all suggestions :)

  • Thanks to everyone for the helpful suggestions!

  • Depending on where you are there are usually 2nd hand office furniture places that might be worth a look as well.

    • Second on the ex-office furniture places. They're not fashionable but you can get some great stuff.

A few months ago we bought my wife a mesh chair which I had seen new for $1500 for $150. It was used and has a stain on the seat, but it worked fine.

      • I will try that too, thanks! :)
