this is actually faster than the Rx 470 someone correct me if im wrong

    • +5

Equal to or faster than the RX480 in fact, so it should comfortably top the RX470.

      • The rx 470 overclocked should be ahead or on par with the rx 480 on stock speeds

    • -3

It might depend on the game you're playing as well (how well optimised), but I think in benchmarks this is slightly faster than 470, and 480 is slightly faster than 1060, then the 1070 is slightly faster than 480. (So basically 470<1060<480<1070)

        • +3

Yeah there's definitely many mixed comments when comparing 480 vs 1060. Also saw someone talking about 1060 performing better using DX11 and 480 better with DX12. If that's the case 480 can be more future proofing but I think these two cards are simply too close for the average gamer to tell a difference.

        • +3

@clse945111: Yeah, the problem right now is that the RX480 is in such low stock and at a $50 or so premium to the 1060 from what I've quickly skimmed over. At this price point, $50 is a lot, and the whole DX11 vs DX12 thing is all just discussion right now. No one really knows how the games of tomorrow will perform, we can only benchmark what we can play now haha

        • @LibertyPrime:

You know there's DX12 games out now, right?

Edit: also the difference isn't really $50 if you compare vendor to vendor (i.e. not bottom of the barrel ones like this deal). 480's are a bit overpriced in general though, especially seeing as the 4GB versions aren't really out.

          @LibertyPrime:
The difference isn't $50 though, it's only $20 in this sale. With only $20 difference I think it's a tough decision, unless there's a desperate need for cuda then it's always Nvidia cards.

        • @clse945111: another thing I thought I might add is that rx 480 overclock a lot better than the pascal cards including the 1060. Based on what I've read, it seems that pascal cards aren't thermally limited, which is why you have watercooled 1080s which oc similarly to stock cards.

Here's an extreme example of the two cards overclocked, where rx480 beating the 1060 in a dx11 titles as well as dx12 .

It imo highlights how well the rx 480 oc's. Of course, this is only relavent if you oc your cards, with how easy it is to oc cards I dint see why not

    • The differences that will actually be noticeable would be with DirectX versions.

The 1060 is better in DX11 titles, but loses in DX12 performance. By a very small margin however.

The RX 480, if it had a price advantage over the GTX 1060, would be the better choice because

      a) freesync monitors are cheaper and easier on your wallet. just look at the VX2257 which is dirt cheap at $169 and the AOC G2460VQ6, which sells for $239. Very affordable monitors.

      b) you can Crossfire these cards, but GTX 1060 has no SLI bridge support.

      c) it supports Vulkan API

but as far as I see stock is pretty much zero where I live in West sydney so I ended up getting the 1060 from Futu.

I don't play the newest titles anyway as I'm a patient gamer who buys old cheap games to play..

Second time I've seen a similar deal this month but the first one was cheaper. Where are the deals for the MSI version. A man can only wait so long :(

  • +2

Futu's eBay list prices for GPUs are quite high. Even with cash rewards and the discount, it still works out to around the same or bit more than the PLE deal earlier this week.

  • If you were planning on going for above 60fps gaming (free/gsync) the 480 comes out ahead as freesync monitors are noticeably cheaper than gsync.

  • I bought my GTX 1060 from Futu_online for $423 I believe, from the previous CTEC20 sale. Not sure if I was overpaying or getting a good deal..

    • +1

That was the MSI gaming x I think. However it has a better cooler than this Leadtek, which is essentially the reference cooler.

    • +1

It's a decent price for local right now, because demand has outstripped supply. Once stock catches up, it'll settle around that price normally

  • +1

For Sydney OBers, pick it up for $373 in Enfield: http://ijk.com.au/branch/ijk/product_info.php?products_id=15…

    • Gosh that's tempting. It wouldn't be a problem if we could get some decent deals on rx480! I really wanna try out freesync/gsync, but leaning towards amd since freesync monitors are so much cheaper.

But damn all these nvidia deals make me want to snap up one them

  • Would be all over this, but it's a pretty ugly card, right… right?

  • Thanks OP, my 760 is feeling a bit trashy of late.

    • It's a tad cheaper now too at $383.20.
