Recommend Me Two Sets of 2 Channel Speakers (Budget: $500ish)

Hi all, I'm looking for two sets of speakers, one for my study / office setup and one for the bedroom.

The first is for my study / office, I generally listen to trance/EDM or melodic metal and I'm probably in this room 45-50 hours on an average week so if anything I'd prefer these to be higher quality than bedroom. I currently power headphones via a 3.5mm jack, my desktop does have an optical out but I'd prefer to opt for an analogue option as it would allow me to move speakers elsewhere if desired, they are not required to go house-party loud. I currently use Samsung Momentum over-ear headphones and enjoy them somewhat, but would prefer speakers :). I'm currently considering Audio Engine 2+, but there are probably cheaper products which would identically suit my needs.

The bedroom is relatively simple, we have a media box connected to the TV, audio is supplied to the TV via HDMI which I think has a 3.5mm out, but can also be output directly from the media center via a 3.5mm 2.1 jack - we don't anticipate other devices being connected to the TV. My partner and I typically watch TV shows and movies, generally action/drama oriented. We previously had made use of the front two speakers + sub from a Logitec x530 setup but found it much to bassy, the TV speakers themselves are below average - we're also not really after something super loud as we're conscious of our neighbors.

I'd recommend the Audio Engine's, well regarded, can't go wrong with them, and they have a good built in amp as well which is a significant value and convenience.

I'd pair them with a USB dac like the Audioengine D1 or the Modi 2 (http://schiit.com/products/modi-2).

  OP, check out what people say about the micca mb42x - the voll are allegedly rebranded versions of those. Also worth checking out the Dayton Audio B452, B652 and B652 air (http://www.theloudspeakerkit.com/audio-video/finished-speake…). They also get decent reviews from tight-arse audiophile-on-a-budget types.
  
  That VX-2 has coax and optical S/PDIF input - if your TV has a coax S/PDIF output, you could feed it straight into the dac/amp. Your media box also probably has s/pdif out.
  
  If its around the same price & much the same quality, go for passive speakers + external amp - if the amp dies, you can get a new one easily, and also upgrade in pieces - better speakers, then a better amp, then better speakers again … then … a better job to pay for it all.

I really recommend Swan D1080 at $279.00 AUD + delivery. Swans also trade as Hivi in some countries.

I have two sets of these and love them to bits, for their price they are amazing speakers. Their main input is 3.5mm jack.

They do not have a subwoofer, so less on the bassy side but great for music.

I really recommend this over those 'well known' brands like Logitech which sounds horrible in comparison.
