Looking for Suggestions on Dumb/Feature Phones

Looking for phone suggestions for my parents.

Mum has a "big button phone" (piece of junk really) that gets some use but is dieing and is only 2g. with the shutdown coming need a new phone.

Dad got given a phone (aldi dual sim don't remember now) so he could be contacted in an emergency/etc. doesn't want/use it and somehow killed the battery after 3 months?

Both have aldi sims and I'm looking for something very basic, sms and calls only with a long battery life, preferably with decent text/button size.

Anyway. I've been doing some searching and have shortlisted the the telstra cruise (T126) and telstra T79 (although I'll have to wait until they come on sale again I think).

Does anyone have any other options or suggestions?

  • Depending on your price range, My Note4 battery lasts quite a while and if they only want to make calls and texts, they can leave it in 'Ultra power saver mode' and I am sure the battery can last a week if they don't use it often.

You can also buy removable batteries for the phone so they could have a backup in the car or something just for emergencies.

    Hope I could help :)

PS: Fairly sure its all Samsung phones that have the ultra power saver mode, but I am also sure they all have a simple mode which would help with people just wanting the simple things.

Ultra Power Saving turns the screen black and white and limits your use to only a few apps, not have things running in the background and can make the battery last so much longer.

  • I think I saw the E3309T for $19 at Carlingford Target from this post just yesterday - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/260774

Might be gone by the time you get there/not available at other Targets, though. It seems alright, though it's locked to Optus so you'd have to port over, but if you're after a long-expiry carrier (3months), I recommend Virgin mobile..

  • If you're mum lives in a poor reception area where there are few mobile phone towers then I'd recommend mobile phones with Telstra's blue tick.

Since your mum only needs a phone to make calls and doesn't need internet then consider showing her inside a Telstra store to play with the phones and see which one's she likes the most.
