Any Ideas/Tips for a Cheap Snow Trip?

Hey all,
I've never been on a snow trip before, I live in Victoria so I'm happy to go to any of the mountains on a DAY trip. I know it can add up to quite a bit, so do you guys have any tips on saving some cash while I'm up there?

I don't have any clothing/equipment or anything snow-related at all!!!

Cheers

  • Greyhound have a day skiing trip adventure. Between 120-150 you leave canberra really early in the morning, get skis supplied and a lift pass, then they drive you back home later that day. You should see if they have a similar deal operating in your area?

  • are you uni student? Have a look at your uni activity list or student union (don't know if they still exist). My first ski day-trip back in 2004 was organised by uni-lodge (student accomodation). Left Melbourne for Mt Buller at 5AM, back in the city at 7PM. I think it was less than $150 including ski boots&poles/snowboard and day lift ticket. Other gear and clothing (eg. jacket, pants, goggles, gloves) is extra. I think it's worth it to buy your own clothing if you plan to go again next time.

If you're not student, try few travel agents, especially those near chinatown in CBD. I usually go with extragreen holidays (on swanston st). They have similar arrangement for day-trip. probably a bit more expensive than those student-only trips, but still good value.

    Have fun.

    • Yep I'm a uni student. Great tip! Thanks for that, I'll have to look into it :)

  • Hmm sort of related question… is it possible to get special discounted ski lift tickets at either Perisher or Thredbo, apart from the peak/offpeak lift tickets?
