Brivis 5 Star Gas Ducted Heater $1288 (Scratch and Dent) @ Gas Appliance Services (Vermont, Vic)

60

Been looking for a ducted heater and noticed a radio ad for a gas scratch dent sale, they have on the ad 5 star ducted heater $1288. I rang up to ask the model and he said hx23i which is the internal one and hx23e the external. Based on my shopping that seens fairly cheap as most of the 5 star heaters i looked at were 2k plus including on ebay. your voting might influence me to get it or not.

Thanks

  • anyone knows the cost for installation, my 15 years old Brivis Buffalo 85 Ducted heating is not working properly, not sure if I should have it repaired or replaced.

    • It depends on how many ducts you have and whether you want to reuse the ducts or not. If you replace old with new heating system, there is usually additional charges to remove and dispose your old system.

      • thanks, do you know the rough cost if I reuse the ducts, also the cost for replacing the electronic controller of my current Brivis Buffalo 85

        • Yeah good question, they have that new "brivis touch" touch screen controller, might be cheaper if it is packaged as a deal with a heater though, not quite sure.

    • Oh no … my Brivis Buffalo still going stong. Built in 1985 … so over 30 years old and heating up my 3 bedroom home with a total of 8 ducts.

It's using far too much gas (I guess I could save lots of my gas bill … I guess around $300 a year) but it's one reliable device and heats up the house nicely. I combined it with a Netatmo smart thermostat and it's now Wifi controlled and gives me a lot of comfort. At the moment I close manually my ducts I don't use but I thought about upgrading to Keen Smart ducts to get some zoning to the system … it's not the best solution but cheapish.

I know I should upgrade to a more efficient device … but it's hard to swap when you have such a reliable unit.

Sounds like a decent price … but be aware of the install costs.

      • I have saved at least $300 a year just by upgrading the manual sliding thermostat on my brivis wombat to a digital one with programmable time zones.
It was a lux thermostat and I got it new on ebay for $75.

I am also thinking about upgrading again to an IoT connected thermostat like a nest but don't think I would see as dramatic savings, plus the high outlay would increase its pay back period.

        • I didn't save a lot of money by upgrading to the Netatmo thermostat (got it for $130 on ebay Germany). But I gained a lot of comfort (turning on from the bed, turning on when I am away to preheat the house just 5min before arrival, checking that the heater is turned off, easy programming and some ), nice constant heat). My gas bill is around $1100 for the full year (old 3 bedroom house) so not that great …

I like the Netatmo as it is super simple and works with the old heaters. But not as fancy as an ecobee or Nest.

  • Great question

  • The ad says 3 days sale is from 12-14Aug. Tried calling on their office number to enquire regarding the product this morning but got voice message saying office is closed on Sat-Sun. Wondering whats going on?
