Cancellation of Trip Booked through Expedia and Travel Itinerary through Jetstar

Hi Guys,

My partner has booked overseas travel for the month of Nov 2016. Unfortunately, some work has come that I cannot miss during that same period.
The hotel bookings were made through Expedia and travel bookings were made through Jetstar.

Can anyone advise some tips to cancel the bookings without incurring any charges? Any advice or tips from your experience would be highly beneficial. The bookings were made using Amex card?

We have not approached Expedia or Jetstar yet, just to get some insight from the experiences of others.

Cheers

For JS: you can call to change dates but you will need to pay amendment fee of AUD50 and fare diff.

For hotel: you can check on your booking if you made a free cancellation booking or a strictly no cancellation booking. if it is a strictly no cancellation booking then your monies for the hotel will be forfeited.

Just to add, for Jetstar, "fare difference" refers to "Full-priced non-sale fare".
Honestly, if you bought your air tickets when it was cheap, there is no point in trying to get a refund / change dates.
Just write off your losses. (You technically can get a refund for airport taxes, which I assume is about $100, but after deduction of fees, you will probably get back $30. It a question of whether or not going through many loops, forms, and waiting months, is worth the ~$30.)

  • Do you have travel insurance?

I don't think any travel insurance will cover I have to stay home for work.

      • You're probably right. Even Covermore (which has a pretty good policy) wont cover where you have to cancel due to "any contractual or business obligation"

    • Yes, but made a booking with Amex, so covered through them

  • Thank you guys, for your time and advice.
Will keep you updated, on the outcome.

  • So the update, is lost my monies for change of the flight as they charged $100 per flight change (100 * 2 *2=400, and the difference in prices)
Not really happy with Jetstar, but will have to write off the loses and look forward to enjoy the trip rather than 'crying over overspilt milk' :)
