When might there be any special offers on Elements? (Don't need Premiere or want CC.)
Searching, Amazon seem to have a brief big discount offering about once a year, but how to know when?
I have a uni student son, but student discounts are not very generous. Maybe I'm wrong.
Or, I'd be happy with a slightly older version, say 12.

Ask the university, most students have some way of getting it for free.
Elements has been offered as part of a Waycom Intuos touch tablet package … buy the tablet from the likes of Ebay, and it should not cost much more than the Elements on it's own. I have a CTH-480 which had the software required. I think it was around $150 … a good deal for the two items.
Paying for software that you aren't using professionally is a waste of money.
If you're not going to torrent it then you may as well pay full price.
