No Man's Sky PS4 - $79 @ Target & JB Hifi, $78 @ Big W (from 11/08) (Price Match @ EB Games)

170

Not sure why Big W decided they wouldn't make it cheaper till the day after release, but that's what I was told on my rounds this morning.

Price Matching will work, even with the pre-order bonuses from EB Games (unless the person on the counter is particularly nasty).

This is the best price for the PS4 copy available, unless someone can prove otherwise (in which case, please do!)

Enjoy =)

Price will crash v quickly reviews are dissapointing so far

I normally ignore reviews these days. They seem to ignore fun as a criteria. Or maybe I've just had bad experience with reviews. They definitely don't always correspond with games I love.

    • I think they didn't reveal enough about what the game is really like. They sold it as an epic adventure but didn't really tell people that it's a survival game first. You spend most of your time slowly grinding resources. Great for survival fans, not so good for adventurers.

      • The game play that I've seen looks pretty boring.

          needs more COD?

          @gizmomelb:

          Nah I dont play shooters.

@Circly: bringing out this game on console seems like entirely the wrong crowd to be aiming at.. by the time it comes out on PC on Monday I'm expecting the console crowd to have lost interested in it and moved on to whatever else is shiny

It seems that's the main complaint im reading, that this game is not what people thought it was. It was supposed to be an epic space exploration game but apparently its just a big empty universe, there are no advanced alien civiizations which is a shocker as ppl thought you can discover advanced civilizations and interact with them. All planets are just flora and fauna randomly generated.

im still getting this game, but i will wait till the hype is over and price crashes to somwhere close to $49

        • +1

Definitely. And the part that I find saddest is that every review in progress I read says the same thing. After 10-16 hours they're still not sure if the game is worth playing.

        • +2

That's why I'm holding off too. It just doesn't look like there's much to do aside from collect resources and wander around.

Will be keen to see how the future updates go as Hello Games has said they're planning on adding more gameplay elements over time (i.e. base building)

Game was way overhyped and unreal expectations meant it was always gonna suffer because of that.

    • -3

All reviews to date we're based on the pre-release (unfinished beta version) so, if you're going to go by them then don't expect a perfectly polished, nor finished game, by definition.

Any reviews after today's release + day one patch will be VALID :)

I'm doing the small update right now.. :)

JB (Modbury SA) couldn't sell me the game, would only let me put my name down for back-order (pfft!), so I got it no problems from Big W which sold it for tomorrow's price of $78, instead of the current shelf price of $84

$79.95 on PS Plus game store. Bought it about 3 days ago. So I guess it's up to $1.95 saving over retail…

    • +1

Correct, if you're like myself though you'd prefer the physical copy with lack of huge download too, though =)

      • +6

Only to throw the disc in and get a huge update on day one anyway.

Sure, physical copies are nice to have in your game display cabinet.

        • -1

Not to mention the 'exclusive' dlc that jb and eb are offering.

        • +1

Actually, the day one update is only 824MB. Which is much much smaller than the tens of gigs that the full game is (so I'm assuming).

        • @Lockdude:
I believe the full game is only 6gb but that's still a decently small Day One update

        • +6

I like physical copies because you can resell them or trade them when you are done. Isn't that the ozbargain way?

  • not a bargain… its $79.95 digitally on PSN with no discount… EB is just over priced…

    • Gotta agree. It's an Indie game. Store prices are usually 20%-30% less than PSN. In this case they are ~ the same. Surely the price will drop pretty sharply once PC is released over the weekend.

  • $79 at jb hi-fi if you can't go to Target or BigW

  • JB and EB have different bonuses. JB version has 10k curency and weapon. EB has a spaceship.

    • 10k or a spaceship? Hmmm 🤔

      • +1

EB matched JB price but didn't give me bonus because I didn't preorder. JB gave me the bonus and didn't care whether I preordered or not. I've bought it from JB and lost the EB points on my membership status, AKA gaming addiction meter.

        • Ah that explains why I had nothing when I opened the game case

        • @Polde: the code is on the receipt. There is nothing but the disc in the box, not even a piece of paper.

    • +1

10k is nothing… trust me… u'll earn that in the first 20-30 minutes and then some…

the ship has an extra inventory slot which is VERY useful… but be careful when redeeming it if you can even get it still… it can break the game slightly and you miss out on learning to build a hyper drive which is causing some people huge issues… i didn't have that problem but i know someone that did and it is all over reddit

      • That's right. That's nothing. I didn't know it until I played the game. Anything you picked up within 5mins can sell more than 10k.

You're right on the slots. That can be pain in the ass. The more the better.
