No Man's Sky - Who's Has The Best Day One Price in a Physical Store?

Best I've found so far is JB at $79.
EB Game's is $99 (As if you'd pay that).

$78 at Big W. Shame no one is doing cheaper, but it may be one of those games that drops in price quickly.

I was wondering the same thing for the past 2 days. In the end, this afternoon after reading the Big W catalogue and seeing it for $78 I decided to just pay the few dimes more and get the PSN digital version so I could start laying claim to my discoveries come midnight. Still half expecting tomorrow morning to see a groovy deal that'll break my heart, but…the demons I have chosen to live with.

In short - Big W is the cheapest for PS4 at $78 but if you pay an extra dollar JB Hi-Fi has some in-game exclusives.

Will wait for sub $40 on this as it's not high on my interest scale.

  • Rang Big W - they apparently have it for $85 today, going on sale for $78 tomorrow so i dunno what the go was there, JB Hifi have it at $79, target also has it at $79, i personally price matched my pre-order at EB @79… all the while about 3 people right beside me all walked in single file paying $99…

  • Gamesman also doing for $78 for PS4

  • Everyone enjoying it or does the hype train hit hard on this one?

    • I played it for 5 hrs last night and I'm enjoying it. I stayed clear of the hype and didn't make any assumptions so I'm happy. Steep learning curve as many things aren't explained but I'm finding my feet now.

Remember when everybody got burned by Spore nearly a decade ago for having a boring Space Phase with nothing to do in it? Well, No Man's Sky makes Spore's Space Phase look like Disneyland. Not to mention that Spore's Space Phase was only 1/5 of the game… And yet everyone is acting like a galaxy with randomly generated planets and monsters in a singleplayer universe is a unique, never-before-seen experience? What makes matters worse is that Spore was a game with more content in its space exploration and it was published by EA!

You'll find a lot of fanboys trying to defend their 60 dollar purchase who will struggle to put in more than 15 hours due to the gameplay grinding to a, well, grind after the third planet, with progression slowing and the similarities starting to kick in you start to realize that all 18 quintillion planets are nearly identical in function and mechanics. Radiation and oxygen change very little except how long you can stay outside your ship, further limiting your gameplay experience. And a lot more people who only like it because the hype told them to and they don't know any better. It's a real thing that happens.

I realize PC's Metacritic of 2.9 and Steam's 58% is Masterracers downvoting it because of the performance, and PS4's Metacritic of 4.9 is because of the hype, but I've always said there is a reason behind the mass downvoting of a product. Even if it's people being spiteful, they still have a reason to do so. This is a $15 indie game with a AAA price tag, and because of the marketing, people will cling to it no matter what, because they've heard of it, therefore it must be good.

      • Some of your points are valid and I do agree it will evenly get old but lets put things in perspective here. I went to the Ekka this week and dropped well over $100 on food, junk and rides all of which was over in 5-6 hours this I have a small family.

If I can get 20 hrs gameplay out of this (which I plan to get far more than this) its less than $4 per hour. In some places that won’t even get you parking!

After a hard days workand looking after the family it’s nice to sit down and just roam around an alien planet with no one shooting at me, nothing telling me what to do. It’s just relaxing.

That's a fair point, but my rebuttal is that you can get more hours from a similar game that's considerably less expensive, and far less hyped. Rimworld, Subnautica, Starbound, not to mention that this week's Humble Bundle is a survival bundle with 6 games for 6 bucks. Empyrion, Spore, there are already dozens of games in similar genres, and only one of the games I just mentioned are more expensive than $19.99. The only reason you chose No Man's Sky over any of these games is for the simple reason of that you've heard of it and the industry is making a big deal over it.

Rimworld is the more expensive one, it's like, 40 bucks, but I'd argue it's also really really really good lol.
