How the hell did you smash the camera whilst in an Otterbox case lel?

    • I didn't drop it or anything just went to take a picture after it had been in my jacket pocket and it was broken.

        Yikes :|

New to Pokemon Go and threw ya phone? =p

Wait, is this sarcasm? Works for me…

    I think contact otterbox?

  • +11

Things don't just "break in your jacket pocket".

I'm gonna get down voted for this but are you sure you didn't drop your jacket with your phone in it ? Or try and throw it James Bond style onto a coat hanger and miss Johnny English Style

Ok seriously though I'd contact otterbox on Monday. They must have some sort of guarantee so I'd be reading through that.

I know no one will believe me and will assume that i dropped it. I have done some research on the net and this issue has happened to others.

      • The issue of having the s7 in an otter box and smashes the rear camer or any case for the s7?

      • Maybe you smashed it on the corner of a table or something with a sharp edge while in your pocket? Pretty unlucky either way

      • Alright just been reading through https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S-Phones/s7-edge-…

I admit I was sceptical about what you described happening but having read that forum it seems it's a design fault. So my apologies.

All the posts describe their phone in military style cases so maybe it puts pressure on something causing the glass to smash ?

I would post on samsungs Facebook page. Include the above link and be polite but firm that it seems to be a global issue and you are NOT prepared to pay for it to be fixed.

Good luck and keep us updated

Theres no need for capital letters. I dont understand it either and neither do my friends who were there at the time.

well did you hit anything against your pocket, it could of happened before you noticed it. or did you put keys in pocket with your phone that tends to happen a lot. it cant break by itsself things dont work that way

        • @shadowrukia: I had my sunglasses in my jacket and gave it to one of the waiters in a high class restaurant (I wasn't paying) to store for me. When I got the jacket back the sunglasses were smashed to pieces. They must've put my jacket down and them put something heavy on top of it. Not pleased. I agree with the others, I would start with Otterbox and then Samsung. All I can think is it might be keys, but not sure why it would be smashed, and just the camera?

        • @try2bhelpful: sue the restaurant?

        • @shadowrukia: It was a while back and the glasses weren't expensive enough to be worth making a scene; given I was being taken out to lunch by one of our vendors.

        • @shadowrukia: My keys were in a seperate room. I have been reading things about heat and pressure may have caused it.

I saw some people complained in the Samsung forum the other day when I was looking around
    Here is the link

Try to give Samsung a call see what they will say.

Thanks mine is a perfect circle around the lense as well.

Mine shattered too without any intervention that I know about. Happened while walking up Mt Warning so I blame it on quick temperature\pressure differences. Samsung store reckoned $179 to replace the glass as apparently the whole camera needs to get replaced, so I had to do a domestic travel insurance claim with a $50 excess.

    • I would be happy to pay for it as i need my phone camera for work. Going to take it to digimob tomorrow

    From msmhm's link: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S-Phones/s7-edge-…

"My rear camera glass also shattered. Phone was less than a week old and never mishandled. I believe it shattered while in my pocket on a plane. Pressurized/water proof case may have done it in. Going to call customer support and see what happens. Great phone, too bad there is a manufacturing defect with the glass."

Imagine if a slight pressure change within a case is enough to pop these lenses - what a fail.

My only experience with Samsung Authorised service was within 3 days of buying an S5 back in the day - the charge port cover snapped off and the authorised service center told me the part wasn't available in Australia so "bad luck - can't be fixed". $3 or so later on ebay I changed it out myself.

  • That sucks man. I have the same phone with just a slim case and I've been overseas and all with it. No issues, luckily.

Mate, if all else fails, your home insurance will cover it if you have an "accidental damage" policy as opposed to a "defined events" policy.

If you check your PDS, It should say right at the beginning.

My. Coles policy covers my phone for $0 excess.

    Good luck

  • Would replacing the rear glass affect the water-resistance?
I read it did on the Xperia Z line of phones (z2, z3 etc) something to ask the repairers.

    • +1

If it was done correctly it shouldnt be a problem.

    • Thats why i will use the place samsung recommended.

  • +2

If you bought it outright and paid with a platinum card, you get 3-6 months of insurance on the product. I cracked the front of my S7Edge screen just under 3 months in and this saved me!

Probably bumped into something whilst in your pocket. When the rear camera facing out wards. They won't accept such returns for warranty. You will be out of pocket.

Not buying S7 for a reason it's expensive and fragile. It does look good but you pay the price to repair. Not worth it

  • no pain no gain, you will be more carefully next time

  • +1

It could be a manufacturing or design defect. The nexus 6P had a similar issue whereby the back camera glass would spontaneously crack.

  • Samsung repair centre is in Canning Vale.

  • They should of made that back camera glass thicker, not thinner. manufacturing fail.

  • Should be a manufacturing defect. a $700+ phone camera shouldn't break that easily. You should speak to Samsung (speak to a supervisor not an operator) and ask them to replace/fix your phone. If they refuse, call fair trading and get their advice - as according to them, a product should last/function for a reasonable time regardless of the warranty period.

  • It appears to be a common problem based on the support threads on Samsung Forums.
    https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S-Phones/s7-edge-…

With Samsung you will have to be polite but firm if you want things repaired, they will do anything to get out of fixing things. You can always invoke your consumer rights guarantee if they don't want to play ball. This is clearly a manufacturing defect which should be fixed at their cost, not yours.

  • Mine got smashed yesterday. Went for a walk after an hour saw that camera was broken.Absolutely gutted.
