Large G-Sync Monitors

I've decided to treat myself to a decent G-Sync monitor.

It looks like in the 30"+ category there aren't many options.

There are:

Acer Predator X34 - $1549
100 hz, 3440 x 1440, 34" IPS panel, 4ms refresh

ASUS ROG Swift Curved PG348Q 34" 4K G-SYNC Monitor - $1677.30
34-inch Ultra-wide QHD (3440 x 1440) curved monitor with a 21:9 aspect ratio for panoramic gaming. IPS panel, 5ms refresh

Acer Z35 35" - $1494
200hz, 2560 X 1080, VA Panel, 4ms refresh

Any others?

Also any thoughts on the above?
The extra inch in the Z35 would be nice, as would 200hz, but you lose a fair bit of resolution.

Of the three (or comparable sized competitors) what would you recommend??

  • May I ask what card you are running for this setup?

    • GTX 1080

      • No issues there then :)

I don't have any experiences with Ultrawide monitors but the Z35 = 1080p Ultrawide and the X34/PG348Q = 1440p Ultrawide so you're better off with the latter.

As for which one it's a matter of preference but the recent batches should be better in terms of QC so there is a smaller chance of BLB and other issues that were there on release. Performance wise they are nearly identical, so its a matter of cost vs better looks (I think the ROG Swift looks better).

Side note: Terry Crews is currently rocking two Predator X34 if that helps you decide :)

  • Note that the rog has a cashback offer currently :)

    $50 back

  • Hey mate what games do you play? Or do you use screen for photo or video editing?

    • Battlefield series

      Starcraft

      Shooters

      • I play battlefield also same name as here.

Its hard i would go for the middle ground 1440p @100hz the predator. Most games are not optimized for Ultra wide yet. But then again 4k is a huge jump in resolution the picture will look nice. The 1080 will struggle for faster frames @ 4k on some games.

        • Other than the fact it is cheaper than the Asus, why choose the Acer over the Asus?

They have similar specs. Both 3 year warranties. Is suspect a lot of the internals of both monitors are identical.

The Acer is rated 4ms refresh vs Asus 5ms. The speakers on the Acer are more powerful (7 watt vs 2 watt). Those are the 2 things I see in Acer's favour as well as price.

I just trust the Asus brand a hell of a lot more than the Acer one.

So much so, one reason I don't already own the Acer (it's been out longer) is I couldn't bring myself to pay $1500+ for a monitor with the Acer brand.

        • @GreatWhiteHunter: I also like Asus better then Acer and i also trust them more lol! But in 2005 i bought an acer and it lasted until 2011 then i got rid of it.

Is the Asus a true 100hz monitor? Or do you have to overclock it?

        • @aussieprepper:

The blurbs for both monitors refer to overclocking when talking about 100hz

          Asus:
ROG Swift PG348Q has a 100Hz refresh rate to decimate lag and motion blur so that you have the upper hand in first person shooters, racer, real-time strategy, and sports titles. This fast refresh rate lets you play games at the highest visual settings and lets you react instantly to what's onscreen – so you'll always get that first strike in.
Note: for smooth gameplay, G-SYNC requires a GeForce GTX 980Ti and above to overclock the refresh rate up to 100Hz

          http://www.asus.com/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/ROG-SWIFT-PG348Q/

          Acer:
Boost your refresh rate up to 100hz with built in over-clocking.

As I say, I am pretty sure both monitors use exactly the same panel - hence the similarity in specs. It's just the appearance and the internal software that is different.

If that is true, it's probably fair to say Acer make a lot more monitors than Asus - assuming Asus actually make it and don't just rebadge it…

        • @GreatWhiteHunter: Yea i was just looking at it. I guess it comes down to price and looks and other things like what stand and speaker you like. plus you can find the Acer on sale more often i think. I think Warranty RMA will be the same with both.

        • @aussieprepper: Asus has worst warranty service as I have heard from many peoples.

No G-Sync on that is there?

Still an amazing price compared to your listed prices (~$400-$500 off)

    • g-sYNC IS A HARDWARE MOD THAT COSTS ABOUT $200 USD

G-Sync monitors command a significant premium over non G-Sync…

A ripoff but if you want G-Sync you gotta pay.

      • Ah ok fair enough :)

      • Does it really cost that much though? What hardware is required? I'm willing to bet there is an enourmous profit margin on G sync
