Advice on Used 320i and Q7

I've been considering getting a 2009 BMW 320i Executive E90 Auto MY09 with about 90k kms for $18k or a 2008 Audi Q7 FSI Auto Quattro MY09 with nearly 130k for $26k. I do expect higher maintenance that comes with it but I wonder how much things might break mechanically in the next few years/30,000km? It will be mostly a weekend vehicle and I will probably clock 5,000km max annually.

(Just to put it out first, style plays a major part in the decisions. 320i being the car I loved ever since E90 was released and Q7 being the only 7 seaters that look nice subjectively)

2 completely different cars that have probably never been compared!

  • This short thread summarises the problems with the 320i: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=136258

Go for a 325i/323i with the N52. EDIT: I wouldn't buy one with those KM's though.

  • I have the 2005 E90. Not a single problem since day one. I guess I'm lucky? It is still going strong. Only just changed my battery, first time in 11 years. I guess it depends on how well the previous owner took care of the car.

  • 320 is very disappointing in terms of performance and fuel consumption. As mentioned above - go for 325.

  • BMW probably has more parts than Audi.
And the most popular BMW model (320i) probably has the most parts.
The Q7 isn't the most popular Audi.

Not to mention the running costs, where the Q7 will surpass the 320i.
The Q7 will probably also need a big maintenance soon at 130k, and more often afterwards.

With that said, it comes down to how you look after them.

    Suggestion:
Sit in each car, and see which FEELs nicer on the inside.
I drove a $140,000 Benz, and hated it. It was uncomfortable. And too busy and confusing with all the buttons etc etc.

  • Would this be a better fit based on my relatively low usage scenario? http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/BMW-323i-2009/OAG-…

    It's being sold by a BMW dealer. I guess it's a plus?
