  • Max if you want it big..

  • And generally Mi series have better quality and support than redmi series.

    • yes they are meant to be low cost

I am slowly leaning towards mi MAX but lets see what others have on redmi note ….

      • If you want bigger screen and able to put more money.
        Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra
        Huawei Honor Note 8

or get one of those 10.1" Samsung tablet that can make call.

        • nnaaa anything between 5.5 to 6.5 would be ok

        • Don't forget the Samsung Galaxy A9. :) Not sold in Australia though, will have to look at grey imports.

        • @geek001: a9 pro is the better

        • @Hotkolbas:

Samsung Galaxy A9/A9 pro is good and they cost $600 which I believe is over priced.

        • @windwai: I must agree there and with China Droid handsets smashing the major players with specs and price.

  • While looking around for large phones. I stumbled across the Lenovo Phab Plus:

    https://www.android-enjoyed.com/lenovo-phab-plus-dual-32gb-4…

Not sure if it is any good.

    • Well……

I have heard alot of complains for android-enjoyed

AND Lenovo represented more than 20% of defective mobiles in all android phones. Plus They dont update?

So that is really interesting choice you are looking at.

I like Moto X Pure which I am currently using. but Moto also represented other 20% of defective mobiles in all android phones as well as Motorola is owned by Lenovo.

So you can say more than 40% of defective android mobiles are made by Lenovo.
Not sure if the poor after sale service provided by Moto in US impact the survive.

Xiaomi Mi Max is alot more powerful than Lenovo Phab Plus and only cost a bit more. I will pick Xiaomi Mi over Lenovo in term of reputation as well.

      • Very well said

  • Any of above 5.5" screen listed on this thread has band 700mhz for Telstra?

  • I have both.

    Both are equally good.
the different in price is about $50.
you can't go wrong with either choice.

I love the bigger screen on the Max.
It's so nice to browse the internet and watch video on it.
I feel I got more phone for the same money. LOL.

the only question you have to ask is which size suits "you" more.

    • Hi mate, I read some reviews on the Mi Max and there were concerns on the quality of the phone. Did you find that to be true? Or are both phones equally flimsy? :)

      • the build is not that quality i found it a bit flimsy but its ok does the job and if u keep it a case it will be different

      • @Geek001

        flimsy? nah they are fine.
i use a jel case for both of them.
they feel solid in my hand. I guess you really have to hold it to know.
both phones ran snappy and smooth. Have not seen any lag.
they are more than good enough for me.

the xiaomi max is now $269 AUD + Free shipping.

if your measuring stick is an iPhone then I guess this phone is flimsy.

        • @superkieu @sajidmib

Thanks for the feedback. Nah, not measuring against an iPhone, even then, cough bendgate cough. :)

Just wanted to know if the quality issues mentioned in the reviews are of any real concern. Cheers.

  • Not sure if you are considering redmi note 3 (or just the more expensive mi note series) but I went for a 2gb/16gb redmi note 3 "international" from geekbuying (Taiwanese SD850 'Kate' version with B28).
It will always be a small risk buying a droid from one of the big Asian online stores (fwiw mine took a worrying 5wks with std. email, partly due to customs slowdown). Now that I've had it for a week I am mightily impressed. It is true that the camera is not great partic. in extreme lighting.. but in general it is just a great snappy phone. So grateful to ozbargain community for making me aware of it. Have toyed with other chinadroids in the past but this is the real deal. 3gb/32gb a marginal advantage if you are going to do a lot of gaming, otherwise for general use save a few bucks. Can only imagine the upper tier "mi" series must be excellent indeed. I haven't updated to miui8 due to some horror stories. It is a great interface as is :)

  • if only mi max has telstra band then it will become cheaper version of huawei mate 8/9 and i will be buying one

    • I'm really quite confused about the frequency bands needed. I'm also considering buying the Mi Max and when I check on - http://willmyphonework.net/ it seems to have 'some' bands from the major carriers covered (including Telstra). Is this not enough?
Can someone explain or direct me to somewhere where I can find out or understand what is suitable? Cheers.
