Anyone Else Using a Headphone AMP/DACs?

I purchased my first one last night and I am really looking forward to it arriving and playing around with it. I'll add more info if others are also into this type of stuff.

I see a few deals for higher-end headphones on here so maybe we should talk more about getting an appropriate AMP/DAC for them.

    I've got the schitt!

  • I've been using one of those little Altoid tin amp kits that you can buy, for a decade. Seems to do the job!

  • I use the meridian explorer, and while the iMac built in dac is pretty good, I do notice a difference in the quality of the sound with the Yamaha MT-220 I use.

  • iFi Micro iDSD here :)

  • Just got an iBasso D2 Boa+ from the Head-Fi classifieds ($60 shipped) which was decent.

Which DAC/AMP did you buy OP?

  • Sorry, didn't mean to abandon the topic. I have an Aune T1 SE MK3 DAC/AMP.

Edit: My headphones are Audio Technica ATH-R70X

Edit x2: and a $2.80 banana hanger from Daiso for a headphone hanger. :p

    • Do you reccommend this dac and audio ath? Also what's the point of a dac?

      • A DAC is a digital to analogue converter and it does exactly what the names says: it takes digital content and turns it into an analogue signal. DACs are in pretty much everything that plays back digital content: computers, phones, tablets, etc. The problem is that often the ones that come with your device are crappy. They do the job but usually not a lot of effort or attention is paid to them because people often don't think about them. Most people also just play low quality MP3 files or music on Youtube.

Whether I would recommend what I have would depend on what your budget and goals for your music listening is. This stuff can get really expensive and even time consuming.

I can offer a few recommendations, but I am by no means an expert.

  • I have a Perreaux Silhouette SXH2 amp. Still trying to find a good DAC bargain.
