Bicycle Lock

Looking to get a lock for vintage bicycle.
Any other good option than this Bunnings pone probably at low price?

  • I bought one at kmart the other day, pretty much the same as that for $5 except it's 120cm long.

  • If the bike is valuable I'd invest in a U lock. They're much more sturdy and hard to cut. Kmart one.

If not, then get a thick lock with a key. [Another kmart one] (http://www.kmart.com.au/product/80cm-lock--cable/122520).

The combination be guessed whereas those two above must be picked or cut. They're safer bets. You can always go for the cheapest lock but it's most likely going to be crap. It's better to invest a little more to protect your bike.

  • $8 lock for $80 bike?

How secure does it need to be? My bikes get locked at work in a secure depot with a $3 lock, just enough to stop pranksters. On the street if I'm only going to be a few minutes in a shop etc I'll use the same style lock for my cheap bikes, but not the good bike. When we go camping I have a heavy-ish chain lock that just links our bikes together, but again that's only for cheapish bikes.

If I was leaving a good (or valuable to me) bike at the train station, or on the street for long periods of time I'd have a u-lock and a thick cable lock to loop through his the wheels.

You should be spending around $100 for a good lock
