Not a bad price for this fridge if you don't mine the colour change. This fridge rarely drops below $1200 I personally am not after this size waiting for a larger one to have a sale.

That is an awesome price. I'd buy one if I already didn't have one. One of the best fridges hands down.
I have the same size fridge. Had it for 10years & when not travelling its in my garage connected to a car battery & solar panel. Good price!
I don't need another one :)
even better if you can access 10% discounted instant egift cards via rewardsgateway (like cash rewards, but for corporates).
Engel are top quality and a made differently to the one in the link. Depends on your needs, if you go camping etc. on a regular basis, Engel's last for years.
My brother's a diesel mechanic and has had his Engel sitting next to his tool boxes (chained) on the back of his ute exposed to the elements for the past 7 or 8 years. The cover's starting to fall apart, but there isn't a single thing wrong with the fridge, cosmetically or functionally.
I don't really know how to put into words how justified the extra money for an Engel is.
My comment is worthy of 5 downvotes? I guess this is a religious issue (or a business one).
Engel may have the history but it also could be that newer competitors also make good stuff that people don't know about. Who knows? With the extra $500 spent on this over a competitor's fridge you could really expand your solar or battery or inverter (if you have the space). Oh well, downvoting is easier than discussion.
Basically, if you don't know what your commenting about, don't comment. Simple

Oh how constructive. Perhaps you can give us your experience with the model I linked to instead of being hostile? You know, so we can all benefit? Or is this just a case of "Engel is da best! So shut up".
I haven't tried either, but I know that you can really expand your solar with the 500 dollars extra you pay. Some may even opt for 240V through an inverter instead of shopping for expensive 12V fridges. Is this worthy of a downvote too? Is this out of the realm of possibility?
@cheepwun:
There's discussion and then there's just trolling - you're much closer to the latter with no experience on the topic and not much to add. I'd say it'd be better to stop commenting too. There's discussion and then there's just trolling
Can you please describe how I am trolling?
I'd say it'd be better to stop commenting too.
I'd say you have no say in the matter. As far as I can tell nobody has tried any alternatives and are very adamant on ceasing all discussion of alternatives. And I am trolling, apparently…by mentioning one selling for half price of this one.
@cheepwun:
whatever Champ! I'll try not to feed the troll anymore.whatever Champ!
Nothing to say, have you? You can accuse me of trolling easily, but nothing more to add when asked to describe how I am trolling. Lovely discussion we are having here.
Name-calling and essentially hostile reactions to anyone who likes to talk about alternatives. I am quite aware of the off-grid market, I just happen to not have tried these fridges. And we have brand-loyal zombies trying to silence discussion of alternatives (both 12V and 240V alternatives in refrigeration that cost far less).
I'll try not to feed the troll anymore.
You mean you have nothing to back up your silly name-calling and you'll try to pick on someone that doesn't answer back next time.
Yes, downrank and name-call but never discuss! That is the key here.
A $1000 12v fridge is expensive. For that money, you can buy a cheaper one with the same capacity from a 'lesser brand' or indeed use the savings to expand your off-grid or camping set-up (batteries, inverter, panels) or indeed opt for even more savings with an efficient 240V model running off your inverter. Which means if there ever is an issue, any fridge tech can fix it for you, rather than finding soemone to deal with odd 12V units.
All are options that apparently cannot be discussed by those who (no doubt have some skin in the game) and who want to silence discussion and would rather name-call and insult rather than discuss with civility.
@cheepwun: The Engel runs off 12 volt or 240 volt, has a swing compressor, I don't believe any other brand, in Australia at least, uses them.
Waeco CFX Models use a Danfoss Compressor, which is also a well known Compressor, although they are now made in a different Country, than they used to be in the old Waeco's.
The CF Waeco's have a Seacorp Compressor in them which is a cheaper compressor and from memory think Lumik use them too, but not 100% sure and not doing more research as I have previously, when comparing Fridges.
I don't have any 'skin' with any Fridge Company, but if you do your research you will understand why so many people go with Engel or Waeco's.
As for getting repairs, there are places all over Australia, even in the Outback, that know how to fix Engel's as they are so popular for very good reasons, but rarely need fixing, as you will find if you read through Camping / 4WD etc. Forums or talk to other travelers.
I hope you find that info helpful, the old saying, you get what you pay for, is no different in the Portable Fridge Market.
I feel like I just did your research for you, but do your own and make your own conclusion. Whatever suits the buyer, personally I don't care what Fridge anyone buys, but will share my insight based on facts to help others make a educated decision.
cheers.
@Rebelstorm: pretty sure the Waeco CFX uses a Waeco compressor. There are plenty of good reliable portable fridges on the market, including Engel. Some "dirt cheap", some more efficient, some with better insulation. Nothing complicated about the technology of these fridges so any good refrigeration place should be able to fix them. Most problems end up being electrical not compressor related, often simple once you know the cause. As you said forums often have good info on the most common problems. That said the vast majority of people have no issues.
@Possumbly: Hi Possumbly, yeah, I think you are right about the CFX Compressors, I stand corrected.
Note to self: don't rely on memory cells when recovering from Medical procedures. ;-)
I agree with you about the rest too, was just trying to give 'cheepwun' some basic info. Had more to say, but ran out of puff last night.
cheers.
@Rebelstorm: ha ha, all good, you gave plenty of useful info. Have a good recovery.
My wife and I have an Engel close to 40 years old. We only run it at 1.5 on the dial, anything higher and it freezes - the dial setting goes up to 4 or 5. Been around Australia many times, still strong.
Very good quality fridge, we'll built and ive had no issues with mine. I've got the same model purchased when they were doing anniversary packs which included a bunch of goodies and the cover. I paid $1350 at the time. This is a great price.
Link is not showing the fridge so seems to be gone
Just talked to store
They have no idea and most stores are closing,
So no more stock
at least in qldRays in Warrnambool has only taken 10% of this fridge. I wanted one too
has anyone bought this fridge, which Rays and can I get a copy of the receipt. As the salesman at Rays said it had to be a showroom model or return. He didn't believe that you could get a new one for that price, as the fridges are all going to BCF after the sale, so the salesman said
This was just click- bait,
They never had any stock.
It was all been transferred to BCF weeks ago
It's a great price for that Fridge and if you don't like the colour, just buy the standard grey cover.
The Legacy Fridge raises money for Legacy of course and you can buy the Camouflage Cover that goes with it, Cover is around $200.
It's the MT-45 Model if you want to read the spec's, as they are not listed on the link, also note the standard Model is listed at $1400.
cheers.
