Good deal. Would buy some if my parents didn't have a set I could borrow.

How sturdy are these? Reviews online don't look great

    • Not very, mine got a hole in one corner on its first flight (to Europe).

After some hassles we got a replacement (different model) under warranty.

I do not believe these are suitable for overseas travel.

      • +3

I do not believe these are suitable for overseas travel.

How does overseas travel differ from domestic travel?

Judging by the way I've seen domestic baggage handlers treat luggage along with the antiqued methods of distributing the luggage you are more likely to have your luggage damaged in Australia.

        • With overseas travel you get some unbelievably bad punishment on your bags. Especially at transit points where they are transferring your bag from one plane to another. I have had multiple supposedly super tough hardshell bags destroyed (including samsonsite), a few years ago I finally came the conclusion soft bags are better and just ensure nothing breakable in them, they can usually survive the rough handling and when they don't they are far cheaper to replace.

        • @gromit:

With overseas travel you get some unbelievably bad punishment on your bags.

So why is Australia special in this regard especially as bags in Australia face more manual handling and dumb carousels?

Especially at transit points where they are transferring your bag from one plane to another.

Why do transit points see increased damage when they are generally automated?

        • @Maverick-au: generally automated? ahhhhh no they aren't. They generally consist of a couple of baggage handlers throwing the bags from the plane to a conveyer belt or onto trolleys where the bags are landing on top of each other. Your bag may get 30+ kilos of heavy hard shell case dropped on it from a decent height on a regular basis if you travel significantly overseas.

Really you might want to inform the operators of many airports that their automated systems are indeed not.

Guess what, wide body aircraft and most other aircraft types used for international travel use unit load devices and these also can be checked through to your destination so they don't even get unloaded from the unit load device when transiting. Compare this to domestic travel in Australia where the luggage is manually handled throughout the system including onto the trolleys to take to the plane and manually loaded onto a conveyer belt before being manually handled in the hold. You claim that domestic travel is easier on luggage but this is utter rubbish.

    • Those reviews are dire. It's a pity because those suitcases look very cool.

    • Interesting the reviews are so negative. I've put mine through a lot of abuse over quite a few years without issue (lots of overseas flights and often long walks from/to hotels).

Maybe I've just been lucky, or maybe it's the smaller size. Mine is the medium (I think 63cm).

  • +1

Pity this deal is online only - I have a bunch of myer vouchers to use. Still, I've never seen a deal on the Cosmolite range at 60% off. Thanks OP!

    • Oh - turns out you can still purchase with myer vouchers (even the online ones that say 'in store only')

    • +1

There's 50% off pretty much everywhere. This is a good price, but not as good as the RRP indicates. These can be found easily (for the 81cm) for $459.

    • +1

I've previously purchased online and chosen to 'click and collect'. When collected my product, they were happy to refund my original payment, and let me repurchase at the same price with gift cards.

  • +1

They're OK however the wheels seem to get damaged more than the actual case itself. I also don't like the handle style it is hard to manage with one hand….each to themselves though. These are always 40% off so you could argue this sale is actually 20% off :)

  • Excellent.

  • Anyone have any experience with the Monsac range? I bought a samsonite case about 6-7 years ago. Must have done about 30+ overseas trips and still going strong. However, I need something a little bigger.

  • +9

Who the (profanity) pays $900 for a suitcase?

    • +4

The same people who buy a Gucci baseball cap that simply has a tag sewn in the inside, it's completely plain outside…

    • +3

Who the (profanity) pays full size for a bed ;-)

    • +2

Nobody. Suitcases are almost 40-60% off RRP in pretty much every store all year around. It would be harder to pay full price than it is to pay the 'discounted' price.

  • +1

Tried buying one, but the Myer website is not working at all. I tried adding a bag to the shopping cart and it said "java.lang.ArrayStoreException". And trying to choose a store in Victoria doesn't work either.

Didn't work on Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera or IE!

    • Same here. Some models will go into my cart - others get the same error.

    • It's probably because it is out of stock. I got the same error message when I tried to buy the black Cosmolite, changed the colour to Silver was able to check out with no issue

  • Z-strike from American Tourister is an old model? Could not find it on ebay and google search??

  • These prices are still joke after the 60% discount. Will consider at 95% discount.

    • +10

I paid $50 for a suitcase from Kmart, used it for like 4 overseas trips before it gave it up. This (profanity) thing costs more then my airfare.

        • Most def this website gotta be a sock conspiracy…good on us going barefoot Rambo keeping it real!

        • no, you're getting negs because you're just completely unrealistic. 95% off Cosmolites and it will be ozbargained in 5 seconds and all Myer reps getting abuse over the phone by broden's cousins.

    • +3

dont be so angry, when you post a website selling same product for cheaper, then you neg. Dont just talk. Action speaks louder.

    • +11

These prices are still joke after the 60% discount. Will consider at 95% discount.

Good for you but your negative vote is invalid unless you can find these cheaper elsewhere.

You can't negative vote because you travel using shopping bags from woolies.

  • I bought the large firelite version and its good, I think when yours got damaged its simply because the way the baggage handler put it in the plane but I have no issue so far and just bought the cabin size for my grandma.

  • +3

Quite surprised to see so many upvotes on this inflated rrp for a suitcase sale. Everywhere sells these same suitcase at $399 everyday of the year, so the real discount here is 10% at best

Is there a saving or not? As you just said there is at least a 10% saving. Sheesh.

The 81cm ones sell for $450 to $550 online according to a quick Google search and Myers has them for $359 so your claim is rubbish.

  • +2

I have 2 of the 75cm ones and recently bought a third. No issues after a few overseas trips and they are super light which definitely makes a difference. Mine were all bought at around $350-$400. Never saw them for cheaper than advertised in this deal.

Like anything, it tends to be people who have had a poor experience that write reviews. The majority of people with good experiences don't write reviews.

    • But poor reviews are what we need, right?
I mean dont you want to know what the bad thing to be expected? To consider before the purchase?

      • Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather there be reviews (even if there's a bias) than no reviews. I look for good and bad reviews and make a judgement call, which is why I started with one purchase of this suitcase. I figured it was worth the gamble and it has a 10 year warranty. In my experience it was worth getting another, and now a third, but this doesn't negate other people's bad experiences.

    • Hello. I'm concerned they've gone too far and made them too light. I've seen the stress tests and cars driving over them etc, but what about the general construction and durability? On inspection the zips etc seem much cheaper/flimsier than usual Samsonite quality. Tell me brother.

I have an older Samsonite and it's absolutely the rolls royce of light/hard suitcases. Very light yet incredibly strong and durable. These ones on the other hand seem like a science experient to take out every last possible gram no matter the consequence. Eager to hear your thoughts.

      • I haven't had any issues with mine so far, but I do think they have made the zippers thinner compared to an older samsonite backpack I have. Nothing has broken yet but I do take care of my cases and haven't stuffed them to bursting point. I don't believe there is one any brand that never exhibit occasional issues, but I've been lucky so far.

  • Order a MONSAC Zero Gravity II Rollercase Large. Thanks OP

managed to get 2 x 81cm cases after trying multiple times after getting the java error

  • +3

God Myer's website is pathetic. Shows various things as in stock, but then when I try to buy them suddenly they are out of stock or in one case I get a javascript error.

    • +2

      same

try login to the myer account first

  • +1

Oh boy, these things are expensive, even after a "60% off", they still cost a fortune

    • +2

take a look at rimowa…GODDAMNNNNN rofl and they are not lightweight, suits the billioaires travelling in first class with 50kg allowance!

      • Wow, just…wow, definitely not for the average Joes of ozb like us, lol

  • My favorite "ION Peregrine Travel Gear Bag" is already oos

  • Few years back I bought one of these for ~$300-400 and was shocked at the quality before I even used it. It just looked & felt cheap and had zero features inside apart from the clamshell that seemed more likely to damage whatever I put inside because there wasn't any cushioning. Went with an Antler soft suitcase instead that had an expansion option for extra things during the vacation and overall seemed like better quality for half the price.

  • Lets see if they will cancel my order in a few weeks just like my lego orders

  • +6

This is great price! I bought during EOFY, not as cheap as this.

To get another 10% off, go to http://www.luggagegear.com.au/, they will beat it by 10%. I used them. Great service.

    • Do luggagegear give you a code to apply on checkout for price beat 10% or is it done over the phone? I want to pay via paypal not through the phone.

      • +1

They drop the price on their website for like 30 mins for you to buy. No personal info required on the phone.

  • These are pretty decent price. You can squeeze more by getting these in europe from the tourist tax refund.

  • Anyone getting a Java error when trying to add to cart?

Why is SAMSONITE so expensive compared to American tourist or antler? Is it worth the extra $$$?

  • Got this error: The following error occurred during processing: "java.lang.ArrayStoreException". :(

      login to the myer account

  • +9

I could get it for $323.55 from http://www.luggagegear.com.au/samsonite/7010-samsonite-cosmo…

    using discount code CONTIKI.

    • Just used your code -awesome, thanks!

    • aww crap.

Wish i could cancel my order OR I might just place and with Luggagegear, then return the myer order since they have a easy return policy (https://www.myer.com.au/p/online-shopping/returns-exchanges/).

    • thanks heaps i just bought two sammy's that were sold out on the myer website, using your discount it ended up being 60 bucks cheaper than myer!

    • Any other codes for discount? I saw this code works for any luggage but missed out now its showing like 5% off. :(

Llyod: Samsonite! I was way off!

  • Hi All

The firelite is a better case.

In general don't worry too much about a brand of luggage, look at the material these have used on the shell, the wheels and Zippers, these are the things that break.

This is a really good deal as they must be trying the clear them out at that price.

    Good luck

    Gareth

    • Are you affiliated to luggagegear?

      • No, i have nothing to do with luggage gear, I do run my own luggage stores, but we do not stock this range of Samsonite.

        Why do you ask?

        Gareth

  • Myer site can't load since last night. So got myself a Cosmolite FL 55cm black for $208.44 only from Luggagegear. http://www.luggagegear.com.au/.
They price beat Myer by 10%.
Now just waiting to see how good is their luggages.

  • Exactly what I paid for a large Cosmolite Fl from Luggagegear.com.au in April ($359.10 incl. delivery)

I've just flown from MEL to Europe with it and it's undamaged, very light and smooth and easy to pull.

    Would recommend so far.

  • +1

can't put it into shop cart from last night "The following error occurred during processing: "java.lang.ArrayStoreException", called today they said cause out of stock, but it shows limited stock online, waste of time…

  • Called luggagegear and now they cannot price beat. I wasn't aware that was allowed… is that false advertising?

GnuahXL can you scan invoice and post it online?

    • There price last night was about 30c cheaper then Myer. It looks like today they upped the price.

  • What did they say to you? Is it because Myer site was already out out stock when you called up? Receipt is in my email.

  • +1

don't forget to claim your TRS for your bag if travelling in the next 60 days:
    https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Ente/Tour/Are-you-a-traveller

  • They said myer price is already heavily dicounted and they can't do anymore than price match.

    • +1

Then that's definitely false advertising in your case.
Guess I was just lucky, the phone call was quite smooth with the lady I was speaking to, told her why I'm calling for and what luggage I would like to buy, so she gave me the price after 10% price beat, then proceeded to the payment straight away. Luggage also got dispatched in the afternoon.
Don't know why they told you the different story.

      • +1

Did luggage gear not supply you a coupon code so you can do it online? I want to price match +10% off on another luggage but looking to pay through paypal

        • No… they also told me i couldn't add a discount code to the myer price match. They had to do a purchase over the phone

      • +1

I agree. Maybe the sales had a bad day at work or you called early.
When i called she said lots of people have been calling.
I really don't need another samsonite but for the price, it was a matter of 'why not'. Just a little annoyed at the false advertsing.

  • Luggagegear now stock the COSMOLITE FL2. Besides the weight for the 81cm going down from 3.1kg to 2.9kg, I wonder is there is much difference for the retail price of $899.

    • Just saw that too, can't seem to find much info on the FL2 online

  • Wow, Myer were quick in sending me out the 75cm Samsonite. Ordered Sunday afternoon, arrived Tuesday morning in an Antler box. I was outraged thinking they sent me the wrong suitcase until I opened the box. Weird…

  • Aaaaand my order, having been accepted during the sale, is now cancelled. Well played, Myer, well played.
