Optus - have to change from Cable to NBN, but it will be more expensive.

currently I'm on the $89.99 home bundle. (unlimited interwebz, local, national and mobile calls)

it's good.

however cable is being discontinued and NBN will be available.

unfortunately the NBN equivalent home bundle is more expensive.

has anyone been successful in retaining the old pricing when they are forced onto NBN?

  • "Negotiate" with Optus. i.e State that you wish to remain on cable and if they can't do that for you, you'll find another provider who can. Compare the market, see what's out there. Note down other cable providers with similar perks and their prices and use that as the basis for your argument.

Always remember to be polite. The guy/girl on the other end is most likely would have their hands tied by Optus in terms of negotiating. They're human too, screaming never helps. If they can't help you, ask to talk to a higher authority figure, they'll have more power to help you secure a deal. If you've been with Optus for a long time, they most likely would want you to stay.

The best possible outcome would be Optus transitioning you from cable to the NBN whilst you continue to pay $89.99 a month and keep the perks you have. Do your homework, be polite and be patient. Good luck!

  • Turnbull net 2.0.

    Seriously: **** that guy.

    BTW: ask on whirlpool.net.au forum.

  • Yes, through TPG for the same approx speed.. Although I paid extra for the faster connection.

I moved house though, and I don't recall the advertised prices were that different… It might have been only $10 / month difference.

  • +1

Malcolm Turdcoat's NBN should be less than what we pay. Australians get ripped off relative to the rest of the world when it comes to internet and other utilities.

Try calling the Optus customer retention team and tell them you'll cancel your contract if you don't get a better deal.

  • Good luck finding equivalent plans on NBN that's the same or cheaper than cable/ADSL2+. That's the only reason why I dislike NBN when I am happy enough with ADSL2+. The extra cost that I am forced to pay for something that I don't need.

    • exactly. i was under the misguided belief that optus would continue cable and everyone would go to NBN and therefore less traffic =less congestion and better speeds on cable.

  • Sorry, another NBN question, as it has just been rolled out in my area. I have Telstra cable broadband which is delivered over Foxtel cable in my building. As this is not copper, will they switch it off? It's a cheaper and better service than the NBN alternatives!

    • Technically Foxtel is delivered over Telstra Cable. If the NBN rolled out in your area is not delivered by HFC (Telstra Cable), then after 18 months internet services won't be delivered over this cable anymore. Foxtel might still be, I'm not sure on that.
