African Queen Marigold, Not Working Properly, Need Help

African Queen Marigold, not working properly, need help…

I bought some punnets of these a few weeks ago hoping to keep the bugs off my patio but, well, yeah, it hasn't quite worked out that way…

I potted them into three containers using budget potting mix.
Three weeks later there is an ants nest in one and a cloud of midgies around the other…it's like the bug are attracted to the plants! Would it be ok to spray mortien surfce spray on them?

Who do I talk to about warranty on these things? Mother Nature? God? I got them from Masters.

Does anyone know what am I doing wrong?

    Lol

Sorry Robert, if you can't get marigolds to grow you really shouldn't be gardening, saying that, Masters do have a plant guarantee but not sure how it works.

lol, yes, it is really just to much responsibility for me….

  • You are most likely over watering the plants, causing fungus to grow. The "midgies" are probably fungus gnats that feed on the fungus. Spraying the plant with some fly spray won't harm the plant.

    • Shake can well. Keep can as upright as possible and spray 20 – 25cm from surface. Spray all infested areas and insect hiding places.Do not spray directly on plants.

      • Too Late!
I gave em' a good blast lettng the fluid drip off the petals and form puddles in the top of the pot.

It's the same chemical in the can and in the plant insnt it??

      • I said fly spray not surface spray.

  • Marigolds are a "bait trap" for insects, they attract spider-mites, away from the more-valuable vegetables.
The type of marigold does matter. The only marigold that are useful in this matter are French and Mexican Marigolds. Any other type marigold does not work.
