Xbox Games with Gold August 2016 - Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate, WWE 2K16, Spelunky, Beyond Good and Evil HD

1080

For Xbox One, here are the free games for August -

  • Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate (1/8 - 31/8)
  • WWE 2K16 (16/8 - 15/9)

And for Xbox 360 -

  • Spelunky (1/8 - 15/8)
  • Beyond Good and Evil HD (16/8 - 31/8)

Fro those wondering, there are two cheap ways of obtaining these Games with Gold games. It is best to obtain them via the consoles, due to the website requiring a payment method despite being free:

  • For those who have an Xbox 360, buy and activate a 1-month Xbox Gold subscription card for $10.95. They can be bought at Coles/Woolies, Big W/Target/Kmart, EB Games and JB Hi-Fi. This will allow you to nab 3 Xbox One games and 3 Xbox 360 games from one card(since the subscription would carry over the month). Xbox 360 games can be kept (and played offline) after the subscription has ended.
  • For those who have an Xbox One, any trial Xbox Gold subscription can be activated to nab Xbox One games only. They can be found in many games' disc cases, such as Halo 5 and Tomb Raider. The only downside is that you'll need an active Gold subscription to play those games.

Note that the link in the OP is a private video, uploaded by Xbox themselves (was viewable for a short time). Here is its' description below.

Play together with Xbox Live Gold. August's Games with Gold lineup for Xbox One includes: Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate and WWE 2K16. For Xbox 360 owners (and through Xbox One backward compatibility), August kicks off with Spelunky, followed by Beyond Good and Evil HD.

The link will be updated when the news is officially announced.

    spelunky is cute though

Based on what? Spelunky is fantastic, BG&E is basically a masterpiece, WWE2K16 looks like some fun and I have NFI about Warriors Orochi 3 but it looks like one for the fans of the series.

WO3 looks a lot like Dynasty Warriors. And that can only be a good thing.

        It's got 77% on Metacritic

        • I bought warriors orochi on launch. Its actually a fun game. Quite difficult and intense so its also good for a challenge

      • I think comments were based on XBONE selection, which I agree with.

    • Spelunky is also backwards compatible

  • I'm quite relieved rumours of Red Dead Redemption were false, lest I feel like a chump!

      I'm spewing, I wanted it…my nephew's pretty stoked about WWE2k16 though.

I don't like sports games at the best of times, let alone fake sports…

      • Why the vote downs? Surely no one is stupid enough to actually think WWE isn't fake? Right?

hmmm what kind of private video are you trying to share??? that link has made me very sus now!… loll

    • It was the usual trailer that showcases the Games with Gold games, uploaded by Xbox themselves.

It seems like they uploaded it too early and has now switched it to private.

      • hehe yeh guessed as much… was just joking :)

Pretty good month imo.. nice to see SF5 also coming to xbone too in news today

Oh yeah! Nice games this month!

  • Noob question: Just got Xbox live Gold, are these games only free for the month, or are they available for evermore if you keep your Gold subscription ?
I only got the XBG for my kids to play Overwatch.

    • +1

You must 'purchase' them within the month they are out - but you can use them anytime after that.
You don't even have to download them, just 'purchase'

      • +3

Xbox One titles need a sub to XBL to play them whereas 360 titles are yours to keep.

    • +1

its available within the date range mentioned, if you don't buy (freebie) that's mean missed out.

suggest to take it when become available and don't install if not much hard drive space left. You can always reinstall as long as you keep xbx live gold active.

XBLGold is a rental service. Once you stop paying for XBLG, the games you are given access too via the service are locked out.

Games you actually buy though, are yours permanently. You just wont be able to use the multiplayer functionality of the games without paying for access to XBLGold, though.

That only applies for Xbox One games. For Xbox 360 games, they are yours to keep even after the subscription has ended.

another bunch of crap games with games with gold (downvote away)

    yeesh this month is horrid.
Thankfully Red Dead Redemption makes up for it somewhat I guess…

    • i agree

  • Beyond good and evil hd is like Zelda. It's very well out together and has a great mix of puzzles, action, story ect.

    • +1

Yep, amazing game oozing with personality. Wish they made number 2.

Might not be to my taste, but it's a fair enough lineup for plenty of people.

seriously how hard would it be to make for example ryse son of rome and maybe the master cheif collection gwg?? instead of just shit games every month

    • +1

MCC's just been sub-$10, you have no excuse for not owning it already at that price…

  • If I purchase one month of Xbox Live Gold, will I get to keep Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate, Spelunky and Beyond Good and Evil HD on my account even after the 1 month of Gold has expired?

    • +1

Yes, but here's the catch - Xbox One games need an active subscription to play, where as Xbox 360 games don't as they can be played after the subscription has expired.

      • +1

Many thanks for the reply. That's a good deal either way. $11 for Spelunky and BGaE seems like a no-brainer… And I get to play some Halo 5 online for a month too.

    Reminder -

WWE 2K16 and Beyond Good and Evil HD are now showing up as free! (with an active Xbox Gold subscription, of course.)

    • In the pipe, five by five! :)
