Ingham's Breast Tenders Decrease Chicken Content

So I just got back from Woolies with one old box of Ingham's Breast Tenders and one new box design of the same.

I emptied both onto the tray and noticed straight away a difference. The old box ones looked like they might have been cut from a chicken, whereas the new ones were more like fish fingers in dimensions.

I looked at the box and the percentage of chicken had decreased from 57% to 44%. New fancy box, less chicken. I then looked at the Coles Tenders in the freezer and they had a 70% chicken content. No more Ingham's for me.

Wow that's terrible! More other crap than chicken

  • So easy to make them yourself and you know the Ingredients

    • I know - laziness beats me down after work sometimes. Tenderloin, flour, egg, crushed Cornflakes; delicious.

Although I've never tried putting my own in the oven. I'm not sure what I would have to add so the Cornflake crumbs wouldn't burn.

      ..and you know the Ingredients…

      Yes. Chickens and fingers.

I looked at the box and the percentage of chicken had decreased from 57% to 44%.

less chickens were killed to produce the new ingham breast tenders. shouldn't that be a good thing?

You should be in marketing "NEW Chicken friendly nuggets! Now with 13% less chicken and endorsed by PETA and the RSPCA!"

But you'll fail the heart tick requirements as you'll now have too much sodium and trans-fats in the breading.

        • Check out the nutrition panel especially the fat, sugar, etc. I would opt. for the low fat chicken breast available at around $8 - $9 per kg. when on special.

I pointed this out to my wife in the store earlier this week. I said its the most expensive crumb we would ever buy.

They don't taste as good either IMO, could tell as soon as I had the new ones. Shame :/

Wow, thanks for the heads-up. I automatically assume Ingham brand will have more chicken compared to Coles in-house brand, content-wise. Going to switch from now on.

Not to worry, I'm a doctor. Looks like you suffer from hypertension and are at risk of heart attack. I recommend taking 3 boxes tender chicken strips a day, once before every meal.

Would recommend the premium Ingham brand as opposed to generic Coles strips. Here's your script.

Thanks for sharing this. I would probably have never looked. Might look at the Aldi chicken. Think it sells for $3.69.

    • 2-1 Aldi has less than it's 'opoly partners…

The old Ingham chicken tenders were rubbish in comparison with Steggles or even Aldi, so I'd imagine that the new version must be total garbage. Probably as bad as the I&J beer battered fish fillets - now that is a disgusting dinner option.

It's one thing to save a $, but when you end up with a meal that you can't eat, it's wasted money.

So true. Better to spend more or DIY. But once…

…tried the Coles SFC variety bucket. Well, it was half price.

I discovered a new version of "chicken". One that was rather sausage-like.
They should call it The Mystery Bucket.

      Never again!

I agree. SFC; once bitten, twice shy.

      • I agree, they were NASTY.

Anyone tell me which "tenders" are still real chicken rather than the "reformed" chicken ?
