As an ex owner of a previous and smaller model, i hope they've fixed the clothes tangling issues or be prepared for mega creased clothes.

  • Do yourself a favour and avoid. We purchased the 7kg Stirling from Aldi 3+ years ago and has been nothing but trouble. Ridiculously ear deafening bangs that could be heard 3 houses away, creased clothing, jumping, has been nothing but trouble… And that was the replacement machine!
Thankfully, the POS died last week out of warranty. Couldn't be happier :)

Edit: things may of changed in the past 3 years, but with $500 you may aswell put it towards a more trustworthy brand

Not really fair to neg it on a negative experience on a different model from a few years ago.
All brands have had some issues and doesn't necessarily affect every appliance. Look at Samsung's ones that were recalled. We don't neg every Samsung washer on ozbargain for this (or shouldn't :))

    • The Neg of this deal is pretty unfair.

However, our Aldi Front Loader exhibits all of the traits that you describe about your Top Loader. I hate how I find it in a new location each time I go to the laundry. It's trying to assault our clothes drier, after jiggling and moving so much that it's walked about 100mm forwards and 100mm to the right then pushed the drier another 50mm or so until it's jammed hard against the laundry tub. The paint is actually getting damaged on all three items, due to the impacts!

Yesterday there was a puddle of wetness under the washer, but I haven't checked why. The seals are going mouldy (and yes, we always leave the door open when unused), plus it rinses so badly that the stench of washing detergent still lingers after line or tumble drying!

I have never hated domestic appliances like I hate the Aldi ones. Currently I am dealing with:

Washing machine was LG -> replaced by Aldi = I HATE

Microwave was Panasonic -> replaced by Aldi = I HATE

And all the other stuff I have blotted from my memory, due to the trauma they caused me. I love Aldi, but their appliances (especially branded Stirling) are absolute shit.

I have so much hate over so little savings! My partner buys the Aldi stuff behind my back, and doesn't seem to care. I generally only buy high end name brands, and would recommend that people avoid Aldi stuff if there is any expectation that it will match mid to high-end name brand gear.

Although I suppose if you are coming off a Mistral top loader, the Aldi will seem pretty awesome…

      • Ahhh, forget it.
Have a nice evening LLama. Sounds like you need it.

        • Sorry for the rant. My god I hate that washing machine.

I guess it shows, right? LOL

      • "The seals are going mouldy (and yes, we always leave the door open when unused)"

This is due to using cold / cool washes and leaving the door open won't make a difference.
To prevent seal mould (and reduce chemical build up inside the machine) on any front loader, wash at or above 60C at least once a week, and wash at max temp (usually 90-95C) once a month. This will kill the bacteria that causes the mould. If it's already mouldy the only cure is a new seal.

        • None of that rubbish is required on a Top Loader.

I honestly don't understand why people bother with them. It's not like they are "better" in any way whatsoever.

OK, they use less water, but I am not running Deep Spring in the thing, so I couldn't care less how much extra that H2O costs me.

        • A friend bought an Aldi washing machine. Even under warranty, the subcontractor could not fix it as there were no spare parts, so he received a refund, after not having a washer for a couple of months, and had to go shopping for another one. Not worth the heartache.

      • Stop whining, you had 60 days to return it no questions asked… That was more than enough to tell it jumped, you were just to lasy to replace. Some the aldi stuff is great, some is s…

        • Stop whining, you had 60 days to return it no questions asked

I didn't buy the bloody thing. I'm simply the muscles who must move it back into position every weekend. The purchaser couldn't give a hoot if it jumps or not.

I also have to clean the completely clogged filter on the drier at the same time, because otherwise the drier sits there rotating for days trying to tumble them dry without any air flow.

        • @llama: was some sarcasm mixed with advice sorry if it came across differantly

        • @Slippery Fish:

Yeah, I know - no offence taken. What's funny is that I cannot believe how upset I get about that Aldi washing machine, and how crap it is and how much I hate it.

The mould on the rubber seal on the door is really festering now. I touched it yesterday to see if it was growing in height, as well as spreading it's blackness.

Disgusting, and where will you get a door / drum seal for a Stirling washing machine in a few years time?

It was like $500 - for a couple of hundred more we could have got a Samsung or LG.

        • @llama: mould, wipe with white vinigar. Will take off if its not eaten in or stop/slow spread.

I purchased a Bosch WAE22466/94 from The Good Guys for $626 (+$50 gift card back) recently. It's a little loud, but it does a great job, Choice reviewed it well. The 15min quick wash (<2kg) is awesome. Does a 3.5kg mixed load in 44-50mins, depending on selected water temperature. 7kg capacity, but those washes take a bit longer.

    • any idea on how much water/electricity is used for the quick wash? Sounds pretty good

      • +1

It's in the manual, I'll update this comment tomorrow unless you want to check yourself.

Edit: Seems I still have it open. The quick wash is absent, but the Mixed load at 30C (44mins) is 0.32kwh and 35L.

It's probably similar to the 'Wool' Load, so 0.15kwh (maybe 0.05? but I'd say the spin speed would be higher on Quick Wash) and 34L (perhaps a third of that).

I might email Bosch and ask, I'm interested now.

    • Sorry @wosdam, negged you by mistake !

What you paid is what you get. If you want a good washing machine then prepared to pay 3x as much.

Bought the Samsung WA85F7S6DRA last weekend & seems to be doing great! Has some great reviews & I am going to add to them.

    • Bought the Samsung top loader too after doing lots of research and checking reviews. Have had it for 2 months now and it's THE BEST washing machine ever. It's inaudible and very fast at washing and holds a ton of clothes. Highly recommend getting this. If you can find one, get the one with WiFi to do remote washing and monitoring with the app. I think it's exclusive to Japan though but would be nice.

Look up the Choice reviews of these cheap top loaders - their cleaning results are woeful, often something like 40% dirt removal. People then wonder why their whites over time turn grey.

Buy a decent front loader and you'll have proper cleaning results, use a lot less water, spin the clothes drier, and use a lot less water…

This Stirling is $900 you can buy a FL for a $100 or $200 more - but it will be by far and away better, it'll be the best extra $200 you spend.

Just look at the complaints from people putting up with crap appliances from Aldi above! I love Aldi and being frugal, but when it comes to appliances I always buy better brands - ie pay more but buy quality first time around.

    • This Stirling is $900

Did you not read the title….

      • Sorry typo…meant $500

    • use a lot less water, spin the clothes drier,

Plus a lot less laundry detergent. I used 1/3 cup to do 8.5kg wash.

    • HAHHAHA - those reviews are hilarious.

Well, that is me being unfair… it's not polite to laugh at the handicapped (which they become after buying the Aldi washer).
