Lazybed Foam Mattress - $300 off - Single Now $350, Queen Now $650, King Now $750

110
LAUNCH300

New player in the foam mattress market. $300 launch discount offer.

Made out of Davina foam.
Free Shipping.
Full refund if unhappy within 125 days.
Appears to be AUS-based?

I was going to buy a Koala mattress, but this popped up a risk free alternative that was $300 cheaper. Have never tried a Koala mattress, in fact I have never tried a foam mattress of this sort before. But it is quite comfortable, and I'm definitely sleeping well or better. And like Koala's wine glass motion transfer test, there is a similar demonstration on the Lazybed facebook page.

So all things being equal, this one seems to be a great deal whilst the offer is running.

    Do i smell a sockpuppet…

    • +2

If there's a way to disprove this, I'm happy to do it?

    • Yes for a new launched product our newly found friend seems to be enjoying a quick lovein and instantly better rest with this newly discounted mattress.

As for "appears to be Australian based", surely you should know from the shipped mattress you have slept on whether or not it was shipped from Australia or outer Mongolia

I guess not sleeping well on my existing mattress makes me a little cynical this morning 😷

      • +2

Just trying to be honest and informative. There's not much I can do to overcome the fact I'm a new member.

The website is Australian, the Facebook page is full of Australian hashtags, the mattress arrived from Melbourne - but obviously I don't know if it came from outer Mongolia prior to that.

  • do you dispose off the old one for free?

    • Nope

      • hahahah there is your sockpuppeting answer…

        • +2

He might have read that too quickly though and interpreted it as do they remove the old mattress

        • @djlee: possible

        • +7

So you're proposing that whilst masquerading as a mattress company, I was so slow on the uptake that the poorly phrased question above has instantly sent me into customer service mode, and I forgot that I was actually sockpuppeting.

I thought that 'No' would be simpler than answering anything else at length, as my old mattress is still very much here.

        • -1

          @rock13: lol

        • +1

          caught him red handed frank!

  • Looks like a good deal but how new are these as there are no reviews that I can find on the net. If it's comparable to Koala mattress then well worth the money (based on reviews)

    • -4

its brand new, thats why @rock13 is pretending to be a satisfied customer.

    • +3

I guess that's why it's cheaper right now. Everyone can choose to wait until there are established reviews, and pay the same price as a Koala mattress. I chose to pay with PayPal, as I felt that would offer me protection if things went south, for what it's worth.

  • +1

What the hell is 'Davina Foam' and why is it a selling feature? Granted, there are different qualities of foam but without any substantiation, it could be any old foam with a fancy name. Sorry rock13, I suspect sockpuppeting too. At the very least, I'm a bit dubious on the deal without some more credible information.

We previously purchased a foam mattress for our daughter from www.sleep-therapy.com.au. It's a really high quality mattress and we paid a good deal less ($240). I also bought a chiropractic pillow from them, which is fantastic. I can't seem to get to the website, so not sure if it's still operating. They're owned by Joyce Foams (www.joyce.com.au) who are a big manufacturer of foams in Sydney. At least they have some established credibility.

    • +1

I suppose that's true. Though really, you could use that argument for any of the foam mattresses for sale. Koala don't even give their foam a name.

Not really sure what else I can say or do to show I'm not sockpuppeting.

      • +2

Haters gonna hate rock13. They can report you if they choose, until, then don't worry about defending that which you can't prove. I appreciate the information as in the market for a mattress.

        What robbyjones said!

Bit of a rough landing for your first post, but please persevere & don't give up, stick around and keep posting bargains mate.

As someone who's just spent a hell of a lot more money on a supposedly awesome memory foam mattress, only to have no end of problems and no ability to return or refund it, I'm actually tempted to spend $650 just to try it out. If it's really that bad they say they'll pick it up and refund me… Not a bad way to build up a reputation.

If it does turn out to be crap, though, I'm going to have to conclude that foam mattresses just aren't for me. My old latex mattress was fantastic but after 15 years it was a little… concave! :) I still miss it though compared to the back-destroying P.O.S. I have now. :(

    • A few of these new mattress companies are actually latex.

Check out the others Greywing and Koala.

I think Greywing even have a store with displays in Melbourne.

      • Which ones are actually latex?

Koala is all (3 layers of) PU foam. Greywing has 4cm latex top/comfort layer; its support layer is also PU foam.

  • +1

OP how'd you find out about the company? They only just opened on the 5th July

    • +1

A sponsored Facebook ad came up on my feed with '$300 off for the first 25 customers'. I was looking for a mattress, and thought I'd give it a go. Again, with PayPal, I felt protected enough to risk it. I suspect the offer has now been extended beyond the first 25 customers, given how much the Facebook page has grown - so I guess they hooked me in fairly effectively, but I'm happy with the purchase so far.

      • +1

        No worries :)

        • I got the same Facebook add.

Possibly as I have been looking at the Koala and Greywing mattresses.

  • +1

fwiw I saw a promoted ad for this company pop up on my Instagram feed about a week ago. Then there was a big comment war about how this company just copied Koala and Ecosa mattresses. Also my username is just a coincidence. :0

    • +1

Who in turn copied casper.com in the USA. I keep hearing ads for casper.com on podcasts I listen to. Exact same model to market. At the end of the day, they're all selling foam mattresses online that look remarkably similar. Who copied who doesn't matter a hoot. It's a dice roll whether they'll be around to honour their long warranties. Hence my previous post why I was happy to buy from a known Australian foam manufacturer with a history.

    • +1

Actually yeah even the website is a pretty massive copy of Ecosa. A few differences but the same navigation menu, same size selector, same pricing, same footer menu, etc. If plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery then it must be a very big compliment.

Where are the specs by which to compare and judge this mattress? The website is just marketing blather and no substance.

"Mattress specifications you need to know

Here is a brief list of the basic information and specifications you need to know about any mattress that you are seriously considering to make sure that it uses good quality materials and there are no weak links in the design in terms of durability. You can print this and take it to the store with you and show it to the salesperson you are dealing with to make sure ahead of time that they can provide you with all the information you will need to make an informed choice and/or you can ask them to only show you the mattresses they carry where this information is available. Better yet would be to call them or email them first to confirm that they will provide you with this information.
One of the most frustrating parts of mattress shopping can be spending time testing a mattress and finding out that you like it and it's a good match for you in terms of comfort, firmness, and PPP (Posture and alignment, Pressure relief, and Personal preferences) only to find out that the information you need to identify any lower quality and less durable materials that would be a potential weak link in the mattress or to be able to make meaningful comparisons to other mattresses isn't available and you've wasted the time you spent testing the mattress.
The information you need to know about any mattress you are considering (either locally or online) before making a purchase is …
    1. The type and thickness of all the layers or components in a mattress listed in order from the top down (or the bottom up) to make sure they add up to the thickness of the mattress.
    2. The density of any polyfoam or memory foam layers (in lbs per cu. ft.).
    3. The type (Dunlop or Talalay) and approximate blend (the percentage of natural rubber and synthetic rubber) of any latex layers.
    4. The type of innerspring, the gauge of the coils, the number of the coils, and the density of any polyfoam edge support.
    5. The type or blend of fabric and any quilting materials used in the cover. If the quilting material is polyfoam or memory foam and is in the range of "around an inch or so" or less then it's not essential to know the density. If any quilting layers are 2" or more then I would want to know the density of any foam materials in the quilting.
Once you have this information then you can compare it to the guidelines here to make sure there are no obvious weak links in the mattress that could compromise the durability and useful life of the mattress and to make more meaningful comparisons to other mattresses."
    http://www.themattressunderground.com/our-articles/mattress-…

    • Well, that's setting a high bar for the required information before making a purchase. Perhaps I'm also a less well-informed mattress shopper. But I suspect if you require all of that information before making a purchase, you would significantly reduce the options available to you, especially on the cheaper end of the market.

I honestly couldn't tell you any of that information about my previous mattress, which performed fine for 10 years. Do you know all of this information about your current mattress?

At this price point, if it appears to be good value, and offers a good returns policy so that I can try it home, then I'm willing to give it a go. If I'm buying something over $10k, I'd probably be more obsessive about the points you listed.

      • Yes I know all the specs relevant to the type of mattress.

  • +5

I've just turned the mattress comparison forum post into a wiki article if anyone wants to further research and add this product: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/mattresses

    • Great idea. Hopefully it gets well used.

  • Interesting image on this page https://lazybed.com.au/0-interest-free-finance/ - "Onebed has teamed up with zipMoney…"

Poached image, or an offshoot of Onebed?

    • +1

That's text, not an image. So likely an offshoot of Onebed, good spotting boy!

The "?m= MerchantCode" for ZipMoney is 332 on both websites also.

The site is very dubious and obviously cashing in on Ecosa (and its forefathers).

Everything about this site smells fishy, from the 125 night trial to the single entry nathan wilson blog (14/July) to the obvious copy-paste of the company logo on the mattress label, to the non-ABN Lazy Holdings Pty Ltd. Also, no way of contacting other than e-mail form.

Edit: I was wrong, Lazy Holdings is registered ABN and has GST.

      • Hi rock13,

How is the mattress/company shaping up after a month?

Did you take a look at onebed before deciding on the lazybed?

  • Previously we've had natural latex which has been great by my husband thinks he's ready for a change, but to be honest I'm a bit put off by the materials mentioned. Can anyone hazard a guess what the chemicals in the following might be? -

    7.5cm of Davina Polyform
    17.5cm Hight-Density Polyeuthane
High quality 280gsm Double Knit Fabric.
    60% Polyester, 40% bamboo (surface 100% bamboo).
    ventilated mesh fabric on bottom.

    Polyform?
Polyeuthane (Anything like polyurethane which can be a clear finish polish and be toxic for a a while as it cures?)
(Bamboo, fabric and polyester I can figure out :))

To me, considering something that you're spending 6-8 hours next to everyday, breathing in residual fumes (potentially) I'd like to know what I might be in for.

    • Don't worry - answered my own questions here - http://www.sleepjunkie.org/are-memory-foam-mattresses-safe/

We have allergy issues in our house so I think I'll just go with natural latex again. (Yes I know it still has one or two chemicals that end up in it, but it still looks like the best option)

  • One of the guys here just bought a Queen size before midday. Will report back on delivery time, and then his first nights sleep!

  • So I've added Lazybed to the wiki after I found out the foam densities
    17.5cm PU foam (30kg/cu.m) + 7.5cm Davina MF (48kg/cu.m)

    • Where did you get the density spec from? I can't find it on the site.

      • I asked them via online chat

  • Purchased one about 20mins ago. Had been looking at Koala, Ecosa and Oz mattress for the last 4-5 months. I figured for the price, can't really go wrong.

Will report how it goes whenever it arrives

    • please do

    • so? any good?

      • Just received it today
        http://imgur.com/a/lFjV4
I'll let you know how it goes in a couple of days.

      • First night went well I think but its too early to say, slept pretty well by my standards (only woke up once). Seems to be an improvement over my previous mattress but I'll have to see how it is after a week or so.

      • +1

One week in… I have to say that I'm quite happy with it so far. I think it'll still take a few more weeks to adjust but I've been sleeping well since getting the mattress. It's much firmer than I am used to but it seems to give me pretty good back support.

I'm all over the place when I sleep (side, front, back) and it seems to accommodate well. I'll report back in a few more weeks as I'm sure I'll have a better idea by then.

        • im expecting mine to be delivered this afternoon.

    • +1

I'm with scorpian007. Been looking at various options for the past few months and was considering purchasing one later this year, timing it with Koala's $100 off coupon which they release every now and again.

But at $300 off, I decided that the time was right, right now.
I bought a Single to try out and opened the box an hour ago.
I did not notice any chemical odours whilst taking it out of its packaging.
However it does give off a very strong noticeable smell when you lie on it.
Currently have pedestal fan blowing on it. Hopefully it airs out by nightfall.

Have not slept on it yet but my first impression from lying on it…
I don't like it. It feels soft and giving yet firm and supportive… in all the wrong places for me.
I found it uncomfortable lying on my back as my bottom just sunk in.
Lying on my side was OK. And it was relatively cool.. but then again I was only on it for a few minutes.

It's advertised as one fits all and comparable to med-firm innerspring.
I would say its a soft-med. but again, I've yet to sleep all night on one.

To give you an idea of my size, I consider myself average. I'm roughly 170cm hefting 75kg. So… not skinny, not obese.. just a nice comfortable layer of insulation around my body that keeps me warm during the winter and just a smidgen of extra skin supporting the insulation to allow me to stretch and reach things up high. And yes I agree with the BMI that I am ever so slightly on the border of being overweight considering the extra mass I am carrying is not 100% muscle.

I'll give it a few nights and report back as well

      • I'll make a note that mine took about a week to air out completely - but I didn't use fans.

      • Hi StevieRay, how does it go with your new mattress so far?

  • Ok, I have been looking for a new mattress for a while.
Below is a list of companies with similar business models.

    Lazybed
    Greywing
    Koala
    Sleeping Duck
    Onebed
    Ecosa

And this one who has been doing memory foam for many years now (Tempur alternative)

    Ergoflex

Just FYI, the Ergoflex gets great reviews, but don't get sucked in by their 50% off sale as this happens quite regularly.

  • you know with all this risk free trials from different company, koala, ecosa, now lazy bed. you could potentially try different one every quarter and settle with one you really really like.

  • anyone tried the clarks rubber comfort deluxe foam mattress?

  • So I took the plunge.. Ordered one on Friday evening, received it around 5:30 Monday. Not 4 hour delivery, but I can't complain given how bad most courier services are (this was delivered by Allied). One of the guys at work ordered one on Friday before midday and Allied seem to have lost it, Lazybed have agreed to send a new one asap.

The box is much bigger than what was listen on the website. I ordered a King which the website says "Box: 57 cm x 59 cm x 104 cm", but it was more like 57 cm x 59 cm x 204 cm. I'm glad I didn't get it delivered to work and then try to take it home in my car.

The unboxing was fairly impressive with a definite influx of air when you start slicing the bag open. It was mostly "inflated" in a few minutes, but seemed to be a little more plump this morning.
The smell that comes off the mattress is pretty rank, but seemed to dissipate reasonably quickly with a fan going.
Stitching quality etc seemed pretty good, but I'm no expert.
Most importantly, last nights sleep was excellent. The mattress is soft-ish on top, but supportive just below the surface. It is much easier to move on than the Tempur mattress we have (the memory foam divots can be hard to roll out of sometimes).

Overall, I'm thrilled with it. For $750 it's a genuine bargain, and at $1050 it's still great value. Just deciding if we should order a single for one of the kids now.

    • What position do you sleep in generally, and did you wake up in the same position?
Any issues with skin getting "hot and sweaty" where it could not "breathe"?
King size … Kids… so what is buttergirl's opinion?

I agree with the comment regarding Tempur. Due to less density(?) it springs back faster than Tempur making movement in general easier. I found trying to reposition on a Tempur terribly uncomfortable.

      • I'm a back sleeper generally, although I have a fair bit of back pain at the moment, so tend to be sleeping on my side a bit. Woke up in pretty much the same position I started in (back), but definitely woke up in the night on my side (child woke us up).
Buttergirl was thrilled too. She loves to sleep on her stomach but hasn't been able to do so on the Tempur. She started on her side but ended up on her stomach. The partner disturbance really is minimal, so she couldn't tell me if I moved about too much either.

  • Launch code expires midnight tonight.

    https://www.facebook.com/lazybedsleep/?fref=ts

  • Bit the bullet and ordered last night. If anyone is still interested you can get $50 off using a referral code. Mine is PJLB50 note I will also get 50 credit but I'm not sure what I would do with it anyway

  • damn left behind. wondering if it will get extended. i'll try emailing them now.

    • I can help you out if you are in Brisbane.

  • Good luck emailing them.
I actually wanted to buy one of these during the deal, but had a question first.
Emailed them on the day the deal was posted, and have not had a response yet.

  • rep got back to me with another code for the same discount on the queen size. should get delivered tomorrow and will provide review.

    • How are you finding the mattress so far?

      • +1

I cant really tell to be honest, only 2 night so far. Its firm but soft at the same time. I dont like the sunken feeling though, i feel like 1/3 of my body sunk to the bed as if im wearing the bed (if that make sense haha)

        • +1

If it's too soft; you should check out Onebed as they have $300 off and a free onesie. Very similar to the Ecosa as it has a layer of latex and memory foam and cheaper. I purchased a queen for $699 delivered

        • +1

@Bargainaholic: Thanks, going to try them!

        • @Bargainaholic:

          Great tip, bargainaholic.

I'm hoping that the Onebed's 4cm of latex vs the 2cm on the Ecosa will make for a slightly softer finish. From the sounds of it, the P/U foam dominated roll-ups like the Lazybed and the koala are quite soft, whilst the memory foam makes like the Ergoflex and Ecosa suffer from reviews stating they can be too firm and hot.

I'm not actually sure how much, if any, difference there is between all of them, but the ones with decent latex toppers like the Greywing or the Onebed sound like the best mix for anyone seeking a medium bed.

Any chance of a quick summary of your owner's experiences so far?
