Hi All
Currently building a house and I need to buy a few ceiling fans..
Too many to choose from and read some not so good reviews on productreview.com and had a look at the choice report as well..
Looking to get 6 fans (4 bedrooms, 1 living and 1 alfresco) with a budget of $150 each..
Any suggestions?
Thank you all

^ What a blowhard, you fanboys really need to stop with this airy fairy stuff that carries little or no weight.
Choice's reviews from December.
I ended up waiting for an eBay deal (20% off) and got the Mercator Grange DC. Quiet and works well. The hard part was getting a hold of an electrician to actually come in an install the thing but that's typical of tradies.
For $150, check out the recommended list on Choice. There are a few in that price range.
- 1 on the Mercator Grange DC. I put a couple in my house during a reno and very happy with the result.
thanks for the info.. Mercator Grange DC is above my budget.. maybe I should get the Mercator Grange (not the DC version)?
Do yourself a favour & spend the little bit more money, you'll thank yourself for it when they're not buzzing or wobbling. These are the only fans I would recommend. Cheap ceiling fans are more trouble than they're worth IME.
DC motors are supposedly quieter and more energy efficient. The money you save upfront may even out over the years depending on how often you use the fans.
Mercator make good fans, as do Hunter Pacific. Fans at Beacon are fairly good as well. HPM from Bunnings are best of the cheapies, and have a 3 year warranty. Don't even look at an Arlec, total waste of money. If you're looking at wooden bladed fans, make sure they are cut from plywood and not MDF, it does happen.
Also I wouldn't recommend fanaway fans. We got two installed. One broke (replaced under warranty) and they just don't put out much of a breeze unless you're directly under them. They're great for hiding the blades of the fan though!
I'm not much of a fan of spin-ding too much time looking around, and around and around.
My local Bunnings circulates a brochure, but their range really blows.
Your options should revolve around quality and not some hot air spouted by a sales assistant.
