Fraud Transaction in Coles Reward Platinum Mastercard

My husband credit card being skimmed since 23/6 and the "theft" is using his card having big shopping happily out there.

28/6 We reported a fraud card transaction and have been told that they will dispute the transaction on 23/6.
2/7 we reported more and more fraud transactions and demand cancellation of card immediately. They cancel the card and send us a new card.

And you think the story ends… NOT

More fraud transactions happening on 2/7, 5/7, 6/7, 7/7! I was sooo angry and called them again and have been transferred to talk with the supervisor and the fraud team. They said the old card is blocked since 2/7 and not sure why. Must be a system error and they will dispute all the fraud transactions.

We soon received the new card. BUT the story still goes on!

14/7 there is another transaction using the old card. 16/7 I called the call centre and demanded a reason why on earth a card cancelled 2 weeks ago and still being used out there. O well, no one can answer that question! They now put a formal complaint for me.

From 16/7 More and more transactions using that old card, supermarket, general shopping, etc.

WHAT SHOULD I DO? I am so stressed that I need to check on my coles master card app every miniute now!

You did the right thing to report the fraud early, don't worry, you won't be held responsible for any losses.

    • But I feel so sorry for the local business. I ask what will happen if we dispute the transaction, they said the fraud team will revise the transaction in 3 days from the business. Then give the business 30 days to appeal. But if is proved that the card is not using by us the payment will be revised. So technically the theft is stealing not my money but product from shop. Since they need to wait the whole appeal process to finish before they pay me back the money, I need to wait 45 days.

So I have cancel the cards for 2 weeks already and coles master card have "system error". In some sense the master card is assisting the theft to steal products.

      • so who is that proved that the card is not using by us and how?

        • The fraud team will do investigation.

It happen to my work place once (i work in accomodation). The bank call up said a cilent dispute a transaction saying double payment. We needa hand in receipt & booking confirmation to appeal saying that client stay & no double rent is received. I think at the end the back still revise his payment.

So in my case, if Im working NSW daily & someone in other state go supermarket with the fake card. Since I report fraud ages ago, card company will revise/dishonor the payment. The supermarket might appeal but I should win. At the end, i will get my money, theft hv the products, too bad for supermarket.

My theft go small shop shopping too… feel sorry for those small business.

So mastercard not cancelling my card = assisting shoplifting.

      • It's credit though right? So you haven't paid them yet? Unless it's changed since I last checked, disputed transactions do not carry interest.

        • is credit card. tho i dont need to pay it i still needa check transaction line by line. one transaction is as small as $2.90. If i dont call & dispute it i still needa pay.

You could always discuss this with the Banking ombudsmen but the banks are usually pretty good about not charging you for transactions after you report the fraud.

Just think of all the flybuys points you are getting.

  • The card number has changed right, not just the expiry? What merchants are the transactions coming from?

    • the new card with new card number & expiry date. but the old card that suppose is cancelled & blocked still see transaction coming in. even after 2 weeks & muti phone call for cancelling.

      that is super weird!

      • That's weird. I also had my card details stolen recently but when Westpac cancelled my card; all the fraudulent transactions attempted after that didn't go through (however the fraud team could tell me when they tried using it, for how much and from where)

There was a Citibank card I cancelled back in January.

So you can imagine my surprise at receiving a statement in April out of nowhere (thankfully no transactions in it).

Rang them up straight away and they confirmed the card was definitely cancelled, but couldn't explain why I received a statement.

I at least wanted my phone call on record to show I did chase it up, in case transactions appeared out of nowhere some months later.
