QLD electricity deregulation. Any good companies?

Hi all,

Now that QLD has deregulated electricity prices it is getting annoying to compare.
Eg, some have 80c a day charge but higher c/kW, some have a $1.25 a day charge with lower c/kW. Then they all have a different discount on top.

Has anyone done any comparisons already and want to share any good deals?

  • The problem is as you said it's almost impossible to compare as there are so many variations and additional costs in the fineprint so what works for one person doesn't work for the next.

I'm sticking with AGL at this stage as we get 52c FIT and haven't paid a bill in over four years.

  • Yep, depends highly on your usage pattern.

I think I might be switching away from click. While they have a good feed in tarrif for solar, their off peak tarrif is several cents higher than anywhere else (so is their daily metering fee). I haven't chucked it into a spreadsheet yet but I suspect AGL 1 year contract (for the discount) will beat click and origin for me even tho it's only 6 cents feed in.

To put the off peak in context. It was a 42% increase.

  • Good ol' deregulation. PRICES WILL GO DOWN THEY SAY

  • Oh, oops. What I said earlier was, I'm with Diamond Energy and very happy with them. They are top of the Green Electricity Guide, they have great rates and feedins, and offer really excellent personalised service (they pick up the phone!)

I don't even own shares or work for them. Just a hot tip from one OzBargainer to another.

    • +1

diamond energy has beaten click, agl and origin for me. I look at the long term usage values to remove seasonality. So based on the past 2 years of consumption/export, diamond is about 16% cheaper than click and 5% cheaper than agl.

  • There was a qld government comparison website that you could put in your usage from your last bill and would give you the yearly cost for every provider based on your usage. Not sure if it is still there. Try to google it.

    • Every time I've tried to use one of those comparison sites I've found that the rates on the comparison site don't match what is available through the actual retailer. I tend to find better deals by looking through the retailers website.

  • I am with Origin..and built in SE Qld last year. From the looks of it I pay more to feed them solar than I get rebate, with the solar meter charge they introduced late last year. :\

  • Thanks, never heard of diamond. I'll look into them.
