Add bitcoin as a payment method for classifieds

Hi developers

Firstly I want to say that your site development and managing of it is truly awesome. The site has great functionality and is user-friendly, and things are controlled without anyone being overly dictatorial. Kudos to Scotty and the team!

I've got a request: Please add Bitcoin as a payment method checkbox for classifieds.

Thanks
Dacs

  • maybe repost this with a poll to gauge interest. I'm curious as to how many people would want to use Bitcoin.

    • What people say they will or won't do often isn't what happens in reality.
Maybe it could be added and then we see if people start to use it. That's the best poll :-)

Doubt they'll create work for themselves without seeing a visual representation of if the community wants it (ie. a poll, rather than just forum discussion).

It's just a single checkbox so adding that to the form would be trivial. What do you intend to sell on the classified that needs to be paid in Bitcoin? :)

    • Something that depends on no processing company like paypal or VISA/Mastercard getting involved who could issue pesky refunds?
Something that might lead to a risk of bloody nose if face-to-face cash transaction was attempted (e.g. ipad box full of rocks)?

      • This is for sales in the Classifieds section which aren't made by Visa/Mastercard anyway (unless through Paypal). I don't think it's any more risky than bank transfer or face-to-face cash. Bitcoin can be exchanged face-to-face easily by scanning a barcode on the other person's phone.

    • Nothing dodgy. Honest guv :-)
Bitcoin is slowly gaining traction for everyday, legitimate purposes and I think it's a nice option to have for a site like this. For classified sales made by post/internet you're relying on the seller's reputation anyway so it's not more risky than bank deposit. For face-to-face transactions it's no more risky than cash.
