Naked ADSL 2+

Hi I hope its ok to put this kind of question here… I contacted TPG to enquire about their Naked ADSL2+ as I don't have a landline but really need a faster internet connection than my incredibly slow 3 mobile broadband. Problem is, that they told me that they can't tell me if ADSL 2+ is available in my area unless I give them my landline no… which obviously I don't have or I wouldn't be needing Naked ADSL LOL!

Does anyone know of a way around this?

Yes, use your neighbors number to check :)

    • I asked them if they could see if anyone else in my complex had it as that would answer my question and they said no. Would I tell them that the phone number is my neighbours? I am thinking if I did they wouldn't check for me..

Go through the online setup with the neighbors number, then if it accepts it you can assume you can get it.

But looks like you can't get it anyway :/

Try http://www.tpg.com.au/maps/ and choose your suburb

I remembered that they had a map on their site where I could see what speeds others were getting in my neighbourhood, and I think that's it

    • Thanks for that.
Looks like its not in my area :(

I signed up with iinet without a home phone. They just ask for you address and they determine if its available from there.

    Naked ADSL2+:

    • TPG Naked ADSL2+ is only available in the geographical areas which are covered by TPG ADSL2+ Network. Please use the above number checker for Naked ADSL2+ availability.
    • TPG offers Naked ADSL2+ to customers who currently have an active copper line (Customer must be able to make AND receive phone calls)
    • Provision of TPG Naked ADSL2+ is subject to Service Qualification Check upon registration.
    • Your Naked ADSL2+ application takes approximately 10 to 20 working days for the connection to occur, depending on customers location.
    • Once Naked ADSL2+ is installed, your phone line will be disconnected. You will not be able to use any services that require a dial tone to operate. This includes fax, back to base alarm, PABX. Click here to see the full list of Complex Products.

Yep, note the 2nd point in dragonrabit's post. There are some ISPs which don't have this restriction - eg. Internode, iiNet, Netspace to name a few.

  • TPG makes me confusing. At the header of their website, they said that "TPG Naked ADSL2+ gives you the choice of getting high speed ADSL2+ broadband with no landline phone service required. This means no more costly monthly line rental for the landline phone service you hardly ever use." But then in the Naked ADSL2+ requirements they said "TPG offers Naked ADSL2+ to customers who currently have an active copper line (Customer must be able to make AND receive phone calls)" and "Once Naked ADSL2+ is installed, your phone line will be disconnected. You will not be able to use any services that require a dial tone to operate."
So finnaly, does it require to have a landline phone service or not????

    • Yes, in order to sign up with TPG, you need to have a landline phone service. I know - it doesn't make sense, but the restriction is there.

    • That's correct, all except a handful of the ISPs require you to have an existing phone service to sign up for Naked ADSL2+, only to get it cancelled in the process. That's just the way it is. When I tried to sign up with Exetel for NA2+, they said cannot provision. So either I had to get a phone service only to throw it away afterwards, or I could go with an ISP that would take me. I did the latter.

  • Do you guys know any providers offer naked adsl+2 with huge amount of usage but at the reasonable price? I nearly have no choice since TPG's offer sounds truly interesting than others.

I've had iiNet NDSL for about 2 years and cannot fault it and am yet to see a better deal.

You get unlimited calls - national, local just not mobiles and 13 numbers etc. To get around this I use my mobile for mobile and international calls and the 13 numbers who dont offer an alternative number for 'calling from o/s'

Im on 60GB I think it is for $69.95 which is both phone/net charge. Not bad considering line rental can be $30 on its own

I got it installed from when I moved into the place so the phone was already disconnected.
