Jeju Air - Trouble Booking Flights Online - Given Name Input Box

Hi all,

I have a problem trying to book a Jeju Air flight from Seoul (Incheon Airport) to Taipei (Taoyuan) airport for next year.

Surely someone else has flown Jeju air or a korean airlines and had a similar issue - the Given Name box, cannot accept english names with spaces in it. In other words you can only input the given name as one long word without any spaces or dashes and symbols.

So if you have a first name, a middle name (or chinese name etc. as one companion im booking for has) it shows up in your australian passport under "Name" exactly as follows:

Last Name
First name Middle Name

As the airline states in the booking form that your name should match what exactly as your passport shows, I'm worried that by only inputting first and last name I might run into trouble in Seoul, which would be very stressful and costly (if we can't board the flight, as we have a wedding schedule to keep to).

Has anyone encountered this problem? Their website doesn't cover this issue and the call centre won't connect due to heavy volume of calls. Surely there are countless travellers with middle names and this is a common occurence?

I'm tempted to book as I do with Air Asia - without my middle name. I've never had a problem. I feel that it is more accurate omitting middle name than having a booking looking like "firstnamemiddlename" as that would look more innacurate when the officer compares this to your passport I would assume?

Can anyone help? Fares are cheap so really want to book something asap. Many thanks.

  • i used them to book a flight to jeju and i didn't use my middle name, they don't give a shit.

  • Middle names are not required even if shown on the passport. Also in most airline reservations systems and travel agency's the first and middle name are joined anyway. eg, Mr John Stan Smith SMITH/JOHNSTAN MR (You may see it this way on boarding passes aswell)

  • Thanks. It seems Jeju air also agree to write SMITH/JOHNSTAN MR so I will go with that. I didn't know that is acceptable in their booking system.

I figured it had to show in your passport as it does on your boarding pass e.g. : SMITH / JOHN STAN - and I didn't want to get into trouble or difficulty at the boarding counters. Thanks anyway.
