Yeah i bought it for $567, last week it was $588. Going down every week. But still satisfied with my purchase. Working good so far.
Seems like it depreciates quick like the G4 did.
All LG phones do it seems. E.g. I paid $550 for my LG G2 and within a few months it dropped to less than 400.
Don't get me wrong, they're decent phones (although the G4 has the dreaded bootloop issue) but people shouldn't buy them thinking they'll be worth even half of the price they paid a year later.
Bad build quality.
http://www.xda-developers.com/the-g5s-build-quality-issues-a…G4 boot looping issue - basically the phone just continually reboots and is unusable:
http://www.techradar.com/us/news/phone-and-communications/mo…
https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2482545&…I baby my phones and am on my 2nd G4, and it's currently in for repair under warranty for the same issue as the first - Bluetooth and Wifi completely fail to connect. No software fix brings it back - Not reset nor removing battery for a while.
G5 boot looping too, but at this stage not as much:
https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg5/comments/4hfg9h/lg_g5_reboot_l…Don't buy grey market, that's for sure.
Mine one working fine so far.
Mine G4 is working fine so far. 4 months of use so far. Which month/year was yours from? When did it start creating problem?
LG won't honour warranty for grey market phones?
@virhlpool:
Nope@virhlpool:
Mine started bootlooping from 5 months of use. So be careful.@clse945111: Damn. How do you take back-up to ensure that you don't lose imp data at least?
First phone bought end of November 2015 from JB Hi Fi. Replaced with new phone late Jan 2016 as it was still under 90 days. Now back in the shop as of last week.
Both died exactly the same way. Blinking Wifi icon and no WiFi connection. Bluetooth button lights solid for a minute or so but then goes back off. No Bluetooth. Removing battery. Factory Reset. Nothing worked. Phone is running standard ROM, not rooted nor upgraded.
Plenty of horror stories in whirlpool thread linked above.
@syousef: It scares me now. How did you take backup of all data on phone to ensure that you don't lose contacts, pictures, and so on? I haven't tried taking backup on this phone ever. It will help if you can share the process if you did.
Contacts and Calendar on my Google account. Most images on the SD card so I copied that. Phone memory was viewable when connected via USB to a Windows 7 PC, so I copied that too. If you create an LG account you can apparently backup apps and settings to that too. None of that will work if the phone boot loops though.
Isn't it with all phones though? LG G series phones are few of the best in the market in those price-points.
It's a great phone for the price
I would feel like I'd bought a lemon because of the awful build quality. It looks far worse than Chinese competition that are half the price.
Chinese phones with the same camera and RAM specs?
No, chinese phones often have more RAM.
t-dimension…. doing their best but really poor effort
nice description thereTo anyone who has bought an LG G5 phone - or is seriously looking: aside from a removable battery and SD card storage and low price (v Smasung & Apple): what makes you want to get this phone?
I've not seen much chatter about it since release, which is a worry. Did the modular-accessory feature not really happen?
The dual camera lets you go from normal to very wide angle photos
aside from a removable battery and SD card storage and low price (v Smasung & Apple):
Aren't they the reasons enough to go for it? Especially the one in dark fonts?
Got it from telstra so will get LG 360 camera (~$200) for free. So it's a cheap phone for me after selling that camera :)
For me, yes, I want it for the audio add-on.
g5 is falling at 5 times the force of gravity.
…But disintegrating faster than it can enter the atmosphere:
http://www.xda-developers.com/the-g5s-build-quality-issues-a…
Wow, they said it's not been a popular phone and this price already kinda confirms it. At this price it does represent great value for a flagship phone.
Pink is same price as above and black only $3.55 more.
I guess this H860 is the best version for Australia? https://www.frequencycheck.com/models/O81Mp/lg-g5-h860-td-lt…P.s. post looks like a sockpuppeter "must try"
OP must try ShamWow
LG definitely doesn't market their phone as much as Samsung and Apple does. Every bus-stop and telco store is covered in posters for Samsung and Apple. Imo, the G3 and G4 got its reputation and popularity from users experiencing fantastic phones at fantastic prices, rather than people being told its a good phone from ads. I would much rather companies spend the money on innovation and pushing technology forward than marketing and lawyers.
hey user, why don't you sign up for their affiliate program??? https://www.t-dimension.com/au/affiliate/
So I'm guessing it's better to get the G5 as opposed to G4 (which was supposedly know for bootloop issues, but has it been fixed now?)
These phones ticks the boxes with microSD and removable battery. In saying that the G4 does have a bigger battery and is cheaper- thoughts?
Guess again. G5 has also been boot looping. So far not as widely as G4
https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg5/comments/4hfg9h/lg_g5_reboot_l…My second G4 is in for warranty repair with JB Hi Fi for another common issue - dead Wifi and Bluetooth. Repairer has a terrible reputation so I'm guessing best case it'll be a while till I see my G4 back, with a refurb motherboard.
https://www.google.com.au/search?q=CARDIFF%20electronics&tbs…It's a real pity. I really love the design of the G4 (except power buttons on the back and curved back). Camera is great. A few minor issues.
Now watch me get down-modded like I did on the Nexus thread for mentioning a different phone.
Btw my opinion of the G5 and it's "modular" design is that it is a frankenphone. Build quality sucks too:
http://www.xda-developers.com/the-g5s-build-quality-issues-a…Has anyone actually wanted to replace a battery on a phone made after 2011?
Maybe you have but I doubt it given batteries last 2000 cycles.
There's always that off chance though when a phone freezes for some unknown reason, that taking the battery out is the best fix.
If you have that with non removable battery phones, you'll most likely have to send it off for repairs which will take weeks/month to fix if you bought it online.
I am using a Galaxy S4 from 2014 with a battery I bought late 2016. Otherwise I would have had to take a loan phone that the guy at JB Hi Fi said would probably have a dying battery. Best they had was also Galaxy S4. So yes. People do replace batteries. I have read reports of people handing their old S2s to parents and inlaws when they upgrade, after installing a new battery. And don't forget batteries don't just die one day. They slowly get worse as they age. Lots of reason to buy a phone with a removable battery. The manufactures have killed that purely so they can sell more phones.
Thanks for the detailed reply. Thats a shame, was hoping it was different than G4.
Shall research other devices.
3 people modded down. But now if you buy you go with your eyes open. Worth it. And @#$% people who mod others down because they can't handle reality.
G4 issue was supposedly resolved end of the last year and I have had two G4 bought after it, running without any issues. What a phone is it!
It hasn't been resolved. People have had their phone motherboards replaced this year and it's happened again. Others have had replacement phones. If you look at the thread I linked plenty complaining who bought after it was "resolved".
G5 is doing horribly mainly because of its horrible build quality.
Some reports of boot loop too
https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg5/comments/4hfg9h/lg_g5_reboot_l…
The single issue I've seen with build quality is the lip where the chin joins being slightly raised, maybe half a ml. You can only feel it running your fingertips along it. What a pack of whining (profanity) lol.
Totally underrated phone. There is nothing wrong with build quality.
G5 brings in some innovations with modules and people still buy more expensive HTC which offers nothing special. And some other idiots will pay $600 for One Plus 3 and claim it as a bargain.
Lots wrong with the quild quality (little bits of bumps and lumps etc on the phone), but not everyone cares about build quality. This phone offers very good specs for the price regardless, but after my g4 experience I probably wouldn't want to touch another LG again, for now.
"Innovation" is pouring even more money into additional hardware that is specific to a single model of phone?
My G4 started getting really hot today. Maybe the precursor to the bootloop. If it blows up would I grab a G5? Not in a million years.
Anyone who's thinking of buying this for the modules, modules are "region locked" as far as I know.
http://www.androidauthority.com/lg-hi-fi-plus-dac-module-ava…
No, you misunderstood the article. LG hasn't gotten a FFC certificate for Hi-Fi DAC and that's why it was removed from their US website.
The module that is mentioned in the article is actually available on LG Australia website.
The point I was trying to make was, "it [Hi-Fi module in Korea] has some internal differences to the one being sold in Europe and elsewhere". Anyways, this is a grey import model, so the point was, if you get an American model, you might be out of luck on getting the module for your G5.
https://www.seeko.co.kr/zboard4/data/freeboard/0c1c6072ef6b2…
^ That was the image I saw floating around, not sure whether that's a software lock or a hardware issue. I assume it's a hardware issue relating to antennas imbedded on the module, as the antenna in the module was mentioned by ifixit + "internal differences" for Korean modules, if that comment held any truth in them.
Alot bad reviews are based on Internet jot the actual ozbargain users review.
Is the camera really good, better than s7 and iPhone 6 plus?
Edit, review
http://www.phonearena.com/news/HTC-10-vs-iPhone-6s-Plus-Gala…
Camera on the G4 is fantastic. Pity it's an unreliable phone. I'm suffering withdrawl while I wait for mine to be fix.
Moto Z looks like a better take on interchangable modules.
The price has now increased and currently at $579 for the Silver 32gb.
I ordered one yesterday lunchtime when the price was creeping up at $572…only to have my order cancelled by T-Dimension in the evening as my shipping address is a Parcel Locker and they cannot deliver.
Apparently it takes two days to process the refund !!!is aheaddigital reliable?
I received mine extremely promptly. It makes my Xiaomi Mi5 look ill. This is a great phone. A real flagship phone for a great price. No complaints at this stage whatsoever.
QD_AU on Ebay is selling the LG G5 now for $559 and the Extra Battery kit is going for $39.
Prices are cunning down fast.
Might pick one up once it hits $400 by the end of the year.
