My flatmate set off the sprinkler system and now the carpets are ruined and need to be replaced. What are my ozbargain options?

I am going to try to get some blood out of that stone, but first it needs to be a cheap as possible ;)
go around nicking sample books until you have enough to stick together to carpet the place
find some cheap asian store that does carpet and pay cash
What's under the carpet?
Can you rip up the carpet and just buy some rugs going out at clearnace prices? At least you won't have to pay installation costs.
If you are looking for carpet you could consider carpet squares which can be rotated to even out the wear and tear.
If you have to do a complete recarpet of the place, look into cheap basic grey carpet, sometimes used in offices. The colour is very plain but it's supposed to be cheap and long lasting. It's possible this is called industrial grade carpet but I'm not sure I'm using the correct term.
How recently "ruined" are they? Usually if you get to them fast enough, you can extract the water with a steam cleaner and the carpet will look as good as new. However if it has been allowed to soak long enough you will suffer from mould etc. and it needs to be ripped up and thrown out.
How big an area of carpet are you looking at having to replace?
make your house mate replace them?
