Trying to Compare between Vodafone and Telechoice

Hi guys, trying to get some input from anybody who is on the current telechoice live plan or has been on it recently. I'm currently on a vodafone $30 month to month plan and was thinking of switching over to telechoice. Just trying to weigh the pros and cons.

Thanks

*Edit
Sorry, i forgot to mention that i have checked the inclusions for the respective plans i was thinking off, and they appear comparable. I guess the main question would be more in the network dependency. Vodafone has seemed to manage to scrape themselves from the bottom of the barrel and seem to have pretty decent coverage now. And as far as i can tell telechoice does not have full access of the telstra network.

  • Check inclusion of both and network coverage. And you are done.

  • +1

Telechoice have access to the contested parts of the Telstra network, so if there is a town with just Telstra, it won't necessarily get coverage, but if either Voda or Optus is there, then they will.
In practice, the Telechoice coverage is superior to either Optus or Voda.
I use Telechoice for my phone and have a Voda 4g sim in a tablet.
Where they both have coverage, I think Voda is a better performer in terms of speed.
On metro fringe, Telechoice has better coverage.
In the country, Telechoice has quite a bit better coverage.

If you are OK with your current Voda coverage, I reckon you will find Telechoice fine too.

Have you considered the ALDI offering also?

  • I've been with Telechoice since LiveConnected was taken over by Vaya about 2 years ago. Telechoice uses the "Telstra Wholesale" network. If you are only interested in coverage in rural towns then Telstra Wholesale is still better than Vodafone. Even Optus advertises that they have more coverage than Vodafone.

Basically, the way I understand it is that all of the old Telstra towers are available to Telechoice/Telstra wholesale. This old 3G/2G network should still have more coverage than Vodafones current network. Differences between normal Telstra customers and Telstra Wholesale gets complicated mainly if you are chasing data speeds, coverage isn't so much of an issue as long as your phone is fine to connect with the slower 3G/2G towers.

In recent months everyone on Telstra Wholesale (including Telechoice) has been affected by those Telstra outages in the news:

Best of both worlds is a cheap Telechoice plan and carry a Pre-Paid Vodafone SIM.

Vodafone has advantages in terms of 4G data speeds and waaaaay better customer support.

  • thanks for the input, my reason for seeking change was basically a cheaper plan and coverage. Although not too sure about the speed yet, although i am aware of a 4G speed decrease going from voda to "telstra" although not too sure on how much slower it is.

How is telechoice support? Are they local or overseas call center?

Vodafone does have pretty decent customer support, after speaking to their retention team, as i am on their month2month plan, they were unable to assist me in altering my plan within my pricing plan.
