This whole Pokemon go is getting out of control

      I have a golduck but no money…

I played today for about 20 minutes. I just don't get it. Minecraft is a better game and that bores the crap out of me.

      • My friends have told me it's an alternative to the overpriced Gyms.

Furthermore, you can actually show someone how much you have exercised, whilst a gym membership… Well, people don't actually go and do anything, or even turn up most of the time.

There is also the nostalgia effect.

For the first time ever my local park was filled with people, i'd say thats a plus

      • It is basically Geocaching with bells & whistles, Geocaching was popular for a while but from what I understand it is dead or very few people do it.

        • It's doesn't seem anything like geocaching (based on me actively geocaching with the kids and observing the kids playing Pokemon go). I was surprised with the massive number pokemons everywhere. Kids like Pokemon go because it's quick and instant gratification. They get a little bored with geocaching because it requires some effort and thought but I feel has greater rewards. I'm a bit of a party pooper but I'd happily take the kids geocaching, but won't actively encourage Pokemon go. Can't stand people walking around staring at phones - it's only got worse…

        • @bg:

But isn't that how you geocache anyway? You stare at your phone walking until you hit the location. and at that point you just look within a 10metre radius??
The difference with PokemonGo and G.C isn't as big as you think it is.
As for quick instant gratification, its not really the joy of catching every pokemon that pops up. given they're usually the same low level one.. it comes from collecting the candys to evolve pokemon and finding the rare ones. etc. That imo takes more determination and persistence than geocaching.

          @jaackyy:
          No
Geocaches generally use a proper GPS, not a phone.
Also Geocache requires a lot more accuracy, something which make its almost impossible with a phone. You need to be within 1m to find some of the caches.
Geocaches are computer generated random and unlimited spawned. Once you find someones personal Geocache its marked as found in your profile. Not really luck involved.

        • +1

I'm pretty sure most people that geocache just use the app on their phone to do it.. I've gone geocaching with my phone many times and it's not really that hard to find… Once you read the clue it usually doesn't take that long to find it.

What makes you think Pokemon arn't computer generated and unlimited spawned??

I never said there was luck involved.. but either way. i dont really know where your problem is with PokemonGo vs Geocache.. just cause you find pokemon more often doesn't make it any less rewarding, as you usually need more of the common ones to unlock a rarer one.. which is probably better than geocaching the one thing.

I think you need to go actually play PokemonGo before you criticise it so easily.. merely ' observing' other's play it is completely different than experiencing it yourself as you clearly have little understanding of what the game is about.

why use facts and logic when you can simply use feelings and opinion? its much easier to have an uninformed opinion..

I have been geocaching for a few years and been playing pokemon (with my son) for about a week now. They are both fun but they are quite different.
Sure they both encourage you to go outside but the similarities kinda stop there.

its like comparing basketball with tennis. Both get you to run around and chase a round object….

I meant to say Pokemon are computer generated and unlimited. Geocaches are human generated and quite limited..
I fail to see above where I critise Pokemon. I was just trying to explain that they are quite different..

(And that was only on ijunk which is only 20% of the market anyway.)

That moment when the servers go down as you prepare to pay your bill.

    • Haha so true. Then the extremely awkward silence as well as trying repeatedly to load it back up.
