Keeping Address Private When Selling on eBay

What's the best way to approach this? I don't like buyers knowing my address.

First of all, not sure if the buyer sees my address upon purchase of an item - I'm assuming they can't. But if they can, any reason I can't strip my address off eBay?

Also, buyers can still get my address from the return post address I write on envelope. I'm thinking I need a PO box, but if I just put a mobile number on letters/parcels will undelivered items just disappear or would I receive a call from Australia post? Thanks.

    Yes PO box
pre paid mobile number to receive calls, put it in a dual sim phone

  • I use a PO Box

I never use my number either, just provide a throw-away account. You need to have a real number that you actually answer since there can be occasions where the post office will call you.

  • Parcel locker and it is free.

    • Given that he/she's the seller not the buyer, I'm not sure what use a parcel locker would be?

      • Parcel locker can still be use as the return address.

        • What would the address to a parcel locker look like?

They sound interesting, I'm surprised it's a free service - how do they make money from them?

    • yes parcel locker, and parcel collect. both are free. they are different, slightly.

    • Never heard of it. Ill look into it. Thanks.

    • Thanks very much for your suggestion. Excellent option - I have applied.

Once you buy an item from a seller, you can request their details via a member details search request here: http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/ebayadvsearch?_sofindtype=9

  • Why use fake numbers? this is against the rules! I am a buyer and tried to buy an item from a seller, said he will ship did he? NO. so I tried to call him. Oh he put a fake number in!

  • If you feel comfortable and your boss/company allows it, you could use a work address? I've done that in the past and just send it on behalf/care of. I don't particularly like putting my residential address when sending items locally. Mainly out of safety but to also ensure buyers don't consider it as an invitation to come at my door if they are unhappy or they want to return an item. If you're an honest seller and have accurately described your item along with any faults/damage and outlined any specific terms/conditions, then most things can be resolved amicably over email if there are issues later on.

    • Don't have an alternative address unfortunately. Yes I am very upfront about what I am selling, but had a few people who get a bit upset when they can't get item working because they don't understand how to use it. Thankfully been able to resolve their problems. If just feel more comfortable if my address wasn't supplied.

  • if you use paypal as a seller or buyer they can see your full name and address
