Don't Buy A Samsung Galaxy S7 Active if You Want to Take A Bath with Your Phone

In news that should come as a surprise to no one given Samsung's recent disgraceful record when it comes to exactly the same issue on previous models, US consumer testing organisation Consumer Reports has found that Samsung's S7 Active "rugged" phone is not waterproof and nor does it meet the specification for "ruggedness" that it claims to have.

Samsung paid clowns aka public relations, claimed that somehow through some incredible turn of events - that even more amazingly also happened the last time (and the other time and the other time as well incredibly!) - Consumer Reports must have gone out and bought two devices that were defective.

I hear Russel Hobbs are releasing a waterproof toaster for the connoisseur that enjoys a bath time snack …

  • Ozbargainers take baths? I am far too tight to waste water taking baths. Never in my life have I taken any baths (not counting the hot spring visits while on holidays in Indonesia)

  • These new models aren't just Samsung’s best smartphones, but, perhaps, the best smartphones. And they now sit atop our Ratings.

Thanks for the link, it makes me want to upgrade to a Galaxy S7

    Coles snap-seal bag $0.04 each.

    • Can confirm completely waterproof. 8/8 gr8 m8.

  • Well if you read up they are waiting for teports from samsung to find out why both handset failed.

Im a bit suspect when they didnt look into their own gear to see if it was calibrated correctly and i find it a bit strange that they just didnt have a 5 foot deep tube to submerge them in rather they presurised a vessle to simulate the 5 foot depth which could cause problems.

  • Not all the waterproof/water resistant phones are actually water proof. I killed a Xperia Z but my z3 has survived. Just dumb luck i think or depends which small child in China assembled it.

I would have to say just because it is marketed as water proof, doesnt mean it truly is water proof, just like the lynx effect doesnt get you chicks.

You can test whether your Z3 pressure seals (gaskets and port flaps) are working by using this test

      http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/guide-test-waterp…

      1. dial *#*#7378423#*#*
      2. go to "Service Tests"
      3. go to "pressure sensor"
      4. slightly compress the phone using your thumb and index finger by pressing on the display and back

I also had a Galaxy S5 which died after mild exposure to sweat (yes, sweat, not rain, not bath water, but sweat) which caused the charging port to corrode. The lower charging port cover is the only thing that keeps water out but once it is even slightly damaged, you lose all the water protection.

Yes but!!! My daughter in law accidentally dropped her iPhone 5 down the toilet. It was there for just seconds but died because as you all should know the first thing you do when your piece of electronics gets wet is remove the battery!!! And when you dismantle an iphone the battery is just about the last thing that comes out, so what's the answer? Easy! Don't buy anything that has an'i'at the beginning of its name because it's planned obsolescence will always let you down and it's inferior tech anyhow☺

So you gave your daughter a phone and said to her "this is an apple iPhone".
She grabs the phone and puts it in the toilet.
