Cheapest Car Insurance, CTP Insurance and Roadside Assistance Insurance?

Hi,

I just bought a used car. I need to go for the car insurance, CTP and roadside assistance insurance? Can you please help me with the cheapest options in these three categories? I understand that price and features of each company keep changing but names of the ones which are generally the cheapest will help. When I say the cheapest, I mean the cheapest with similar offerings. Thanks a lot!

Age is 30+, mate! Much older.

      • Perhaps you could have kids and wait for them to be 16 and then the car can be covered. This deal is also pretty popular

  • How old are you?
    Are you male/female?
When did you get your licence?
Have you been involved in any at-fault accidents?
    What car do you drive?
    Is it personal/business use?
    Where is it parked?

If you want some specific quotes and advice, you'll need to provide that information so those interested can help you get quotes and have a look.
What have you found so far?

      Are you male/female? M
When did you get your licence? 12 yrs ago
Have you been involved in any at-fault accidents? Never
What car do you drive? Hatchback (Hyundai)
      Is it personal/business use? Personal
Where is it parked? At home (closed garage)

What have you found so far? It's been pretty confusing. Comparison websites exclude some brands and prefer some. Also, different numbers on different websites. Woolworths seems to be the cheapest so far (haven't tried Bingle yet).

Have you ever known by the name of Captain Risky ?

        • +1

Yes. Please elaborate on the context.

    roadside assistance insurance?

    Is a waste of money.

    • +1

Towing and road-side help can cost a bomb when needed if we don't have this. Isn't it?

      • Nope. $70 to tow to a workshop of your choice (reasonable distance).

Are you intending to buy a crap box so that you can pay for roadside assistance?

        • Yes, a reasonably old car. 2007 model. So, I guess I will need it.

        • @virhlpool:

Yes, a reasonably old car. 2007 model. So, I guess I will need it.

Why don't you work out how much roadside assistance will cost over how many years you'll keep it? Then spend that money on a more reliable vehicle.

        • @whooah1979: I have already bought the vehicle. So, now the point is about finding the most reasonable roadside assistance insurance.

  • What is ctm insurance?

    • Fixed the mistake! CTP it is. Thanks for noticing it. :)

  • NRMA roadside still might be available at Groupon
Or ultra tune servicing comes with 6 months roadside

    • Which one is the cheapest? Where to find Ultra tune deal?

    • Couldn't find NRMA roadside on Groupon.

  • Negotiate with Coles for comprehensive and roadside assist.

    • Bingle is much cheaper than Coles or Woolies insurance when I compared. Any pros and cons?

  • A 2007 Hyundai hatch - you probably paid $2-$3K for
Check the price of comprehensive cover versus third party property damage only
Given the low value of your car you may not want to pay for full comprehensive cover
A lower cover like Third party Fire and Theft or Third Party Property Damage will be cheaper and probably worth while
E.g. if you pay $500 p.a. for insurance - maybe more if you have no NCB - plus a $600 excess on a car worth $2K you are really only getting less than $1K back if you write it off

    • Thanks. Car's worth $5000 (low kms), so I would prefer a comprehensive one at least in the first year. Bingle seems to be the cheapest among all I compared so far.

Well go ahead and use Bingle and leave us alone. We are not here to debate the issue.

  • If the car is registered , you already have compulsory third party personal injury insurance (CTP).
Don't ever drive an unregistered car.
You now need insurance to cover for property damage. You seem to understand the differences between comprehensive, third party property with fire and theft and finally just third party property.
You say you want comprehensive. As others have pointed out, this may have very expensive premiums. Also you will have to verify that the car is in good order and kept that way, eg no probs with paintwork, etc, otherwise the company may not pay out.
Unless you have agreed value the company will only pay out market value for the car, regardless of what you have paid for it.
Finally, if you are driving the car I hope you have a cover note for property insurance, these are usually non binding for 1 month.

    • I bought the car from a dealer and transferred rego to my name. What do you mean by "cover note for property insurance"? Where do I get it?

    • -3

Mate. this guy doesnt get it. Dont waste your time. Let me go with Bingle.

    • Can you please explain the context of "cover note for property insurance" in case of car?

      • If you ring up and get a quote, before you pay for the policy fully they will give you cover, provided if there is an accident that you will have to pay the full premium and excess.

Essentially the cover note will be your insurance until you finalise your insurance policy.

Hey, if you are only going to drive the car locally then simply don't register or insure your car !

This is a great money saver if you; can avoid the cops with rego detectors; and are not planning on having any accidents especially those in which you kill someone.

    Save approx $1500 per year.

The paradox now is that you have lots of extra money so you can afford a much nicer car which will need registering and insuring, So, in order to break the paradox the money saved would need to need to be spent on lifestyle items like cocaine and hookers.

Guys, why does no one here talk about getting CTP Greenslip insurance from Budget Direct? Its underwritten by QBE.
I just renewed my CTP for 6 months and it cost me $218.
Any good driver with no active demerit points will be rewarded handsomely. Also, if you are over 30 your insurance premium is also heavily reduced- hence my low CTP cost.
I'd be interested to hear back from you guys if this is helpful for you, i'd be surprised if it wasn't !

Budget Direct isn't the cheapest generally, so I personally didn't care much. Bingle is the cheapest hands down but then it doesn't offer CTP. GIO is known as one of the cheapest for CTP. I don't know GIO vs Budget Direct comparison though.

      • i'll second that, i'm with Bingle for comprehensive insurance and have found them to have the best prices around.

        • but what is their cover like? If the policy is the cheapest, you may end up getting a raw deal if there is a crash.

    • QBE greenslip is same price everywhere - via Budget or not
What you find with some insurers - hello NRMA - is that you only get their best price if you tick all the boxes like have your Insurance with them
Most CTP insurers, including QBE, don't stipulate that
QBE don't offer quite as much cover for Driver At Fault which NRMA and others make a big deal about
Honestly, the cover NRMA offer isn't worth much - an extra few $$ if you are dead or paralysed otherwise nothing
Would you pay extra for that unlikely scenario - I wouldn't

Disclaimer - I sell QBE greenslips at my work
I would love to set up a discount offer but it is hard as you would need to pa in full and receive cash refund - so small degree of trust
Also the income form sales is small - $10 on a $200 CTP so it isn't worthwhile
If anyone has trucks to insure, especially multiple vehicles I can hook you up with a discount for sure
      PM if interested
