  • Output Type: 5V / 1A

    Hmm

    • thats the standard for wireless

      • For now

When plugged into the included Adaptive Fast Charging wall plug, the new Wireless Charging Pad will juice up a Galaxy Note 5 or S6 edge+ from dead to full in just over an hour and a half, which is considerably faster than a standard wireless charger. That's about the same pace as plugging the phone into a standard 5V / 2A (non-quick charge) wired charger, and some 40 percent faster than a "standard" Qi wireless charger.

Can't say I see a point in buying something to purposely 'trickle charge' my phone.

If anyone posted a deal for a 1A car charger or DC charger they'd get shot down in flames these days.

Why put up with 2nd best?

Hmmm, I kinda think even the slow wireless charging has its purpose, it's convienient to be just able to leave the phone onto the pad. Besides if you need to charge things faster, nothing stops you from unplugging the cable from the charger and plugging it directly into the phone.

Besides, the fast wireless charging one is for some reason not being adopted by anyone other than Samsung (at least for now) and only 4 models support it. Plus, it requires specific hardware for it, so I don't think it's an option for a lot of people.

Trickle charging heats the battery less, so it prolongs phone battery life. The disadvantage is that it takes longer to charge. If you are using the wireless charging for longer periods, such as overnight, slower charge rates will be better in terms of battery lifetime.

That being said, if you are keen for high speed charging, you are also probably going to replace your device before the battery has reached a significant portion of its usable life, so in that case, there would be no reason to charge more slowly.

@twocsies: I find the wireless charger makes my phone hotter than normal.
Probably heating up other parts inside, or perhaps it heats the whole battery itself. Who knows.

        • @RohBoat:

The fact that there is excess heat generated means that there is electrical energy being wasted

You lose efficiency by charging wirelessly

        • @scrimshaw:

I was more pointing out that even though this is trickle charging it still heats up your battery quite a bit (in regards to twocsies comment about trickle charging not heating your battery up as much).

        • @RohBoat: My Samsung Galaxy S5 no longer appears to (or at least I can't feel it) heat up excessively during wireless charging like it sometimes used to since I changed from a cheap eBay charging receiver to a back cover with wireless charging built-in which makes the phone thicker. I would dearly like to know what to look for in a thin charging receiver that would avoid overheating so I can go back to using the original back cover that bulges slightly but is still much better/thinner for handling the phone.
