Thanks for providing a product link, but unfortunately they havent provided any useful information there that relates to console gaming. The TV is probably so bad, that they are embarrassed to list the details!
What they have written is almost like they are selling a car advertised like this:
CAR FOR SALE
• Has 4 wheels
• Comes with engine
• Has glass windows
• Front and rear headlights
• Uses petrol
• Can turn, as well as drive forwards and backwards
It's not very helpful is it?
Any TV will be fine for console gaming - any tv at all. Is it a good TV for console gaming? Probably not - its not a brand name TV, so its probably the cheapest thing that Target could find at this size, probably from a smaller Chinese manufacturer that we have never heard of, so that they made up a new brand name for that sounds more western-friendly – "Platinum" – sounds pretty good right?
Good console gaming TV's have a thing called "low input latency" - where it is as small a delay as possible between the signal coming into the TV from the console, and the TV showing the image on the screen. Any good brand name TV will have a "Gaming mode" or similar feature that helps to reduce this delay.
A good gaming TV will also have good picture quality, and apart from being Full HD, there is no mention of the screen viewing angle, the screen brightness, or even the contrast ratio.
If you just want a cheap TV, have a look at the Soniq's for sale at JBHIFI here (40inch) or here (48inch refurbished) instead.
If you want a good value TV with better quality, have a look at Hisense here.
Thanks. So you reckon Soniq E40V16A-AU 40" Full HD LED LCD TV will be good enough?
It will be fine for general gaming. What sort of games do you play?
The sound quality is also likely to be poor so if you want things to be more exciting you might want to look into some speakers or hifi of some kind.
Usual Xbox and Ps gaming.
@spedohero: If you want more specific advice, you need to provide more specific information… like I said, it will be fine for general gaming.
Car Salesperson: "What do you want to do with your vehicle?"
Car Buyer: "Oh, driving mostly"
Car Salesperson: "it can do that… but are you doing city driving, offroad driving, or highway driving mostly?"
Perhaps doom, tomb raider etc.
@spedohero:
Sounds like it'll be fine for what you want.
Are there any specific games that average gaming TV can't handle?
@spedohero:
If you were playing competitive online FPS games you might want to spend more on a brand name TV. Those tend to have slightly lower input lag that makes a difference for those people. If you were playing lots of FIFA, NBA etc you might want to spend more for a TV with motion flow or 100hz for smoother motion.
With the information you've provided, I can tell you that it may or may not be a good TV for console gaming.
