Best Projector around $1000 for Home Cinema

Job 1 : Find a projector shop that has demo rooms and see the difference between LCD and DLP projectors. Work out which one you prefer.
Job 2 : Work out where you would be placing it, where you would be projecting it, and therefore what characteristics you need in throw, zoom, etc.
Job 3 : Work out what type of content matters to you, and therefore what characteristics you need. Sports needs certain things, movies others.
Wow Ryanek that projector is great value!
Sane:
Its going in my converted garage it will have all sorts of content but mainly movies i can make the garage very dark but i would like it to be usable with some light.
as far as distance im flexible as i have so much space so dont believe short throw is nessasaryOK, well you still need to see LCD vs DLP and determine what you like (screendoor vs rainbow fringe). And even with space, you will need to check position/zoom/etc.
Movies tend to be best with a 24p mode, so make sure what you get has one (the above Epson doesn't it seems). You may find you can get something less than $1000 and still be good (eg the new Optoma HD142x - US$579).

Oh, and don't forget the sound. If you end up ordering from overseas, you might like to look at receivers and speakers at the same time - the prices in Australia have the Oz Tax in spades.
+1 Definitely compare LCD and DLP to determine if you are sensitive to the rainbow effect. Some people are more sensitive than others (myself included)
sane- i am thinking i may buy the optoma based on reviews any speakers and amp deals on amazon you can reccomend?
Note, that's new, not actually out there yet. Worth waiting for some hands on reviews. And as I say, demo rooms to check LCD vs DLP first.
As far as amps, I tend to favour Yamaha, never really heard anyone having any issue and lots of price points (I have RX-V6xx level). Obviously, for mains stuff you are better off with the UK for amps or projectors, unless you make sure the power supply is good for both 110 and 240v.
Speakers is very personal preference. I go for Cambridge Audio MinX for the surrounds, and something beefy at the front (I've B&W and Mission). But again, trying stuff out in an audio demo room is a smart idea; you don't have to buy there.
