Aliexpress seller out of stock, requests cancellation with "I do not want this order anymore"?

Hi all,

I recently made a small purchase from Aliexpress (less than $5) and received a message from the seller saying that they realised they were out of stock on picking my order and requested that I cancel the order with reason "I do not want this order anymore" so Aliexpress would refund me.

I cancelled the order with reason "Product(s) out of stock" but the seller rejected my cancellation and again asked me to cancel with the "I do not want this order anymore".

Does anyone have any idea why the seller would be pushing for that particular cancellation reason instead of the actual reason?

As the seller has said they are out of stock, I'm not particularly fussed what reason is used as long as I get my money back, but I thought I'd check here first in case using the "I do not want this order anymore" reason might work against me (like when someone backs out of an eBay purchase).

Thanks in advance for your help, appreciate your comments!

they are choosing that option so they don't get negative points against their seller profile. See my post https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/247432 and you can skip to my last comment about my experience with a seller.

But for 5 bucks I don't think its worth the hassle. I wish the sellers could be more honest though and accept the reason you choose to submit.

Position yourself in the shoes of whoever owns that store. If you have multiple customers cancelling an order because you don't have stock, it reflects poorly on your store. If the customer doesn't want it/changed their mind, then the store has nothing to do with it because the decision lies with the customer.

I'd just give them what they want and avoid that particular store in the future. Once you get money back, you can do whatever the hell you want. i.e forward whatever cancellation message you received from that vendor to aliexpress customer service and have them look into it (something might or might not get done about it)

I would say that I do not care, And stick with the real reason as this is not what you concern and they should have sell base on the number of stock they have not per sale their item and told the customer they do not have stock.

if you are do what you are being told then in the future there will be more victim like you.

It is only $5 and I think keeping the message for the seller that they are doing the wrong thing is more important.

Couple months ago a seller I ordered a jacket from ran out of stock so I cancelled with the "product out of stock" option and the seller asked if I could change it to "other reasons". Wasn't really fussed and the seller had been quite open and friendly so I changed it for them, got my refund, and that was that.

Thanks for the replies, it all makes sense. While it is frustrating and annoying for the seller to be able to cheat their way out of bad feedback so I can get a refund, at the end of the day I agree that it's not worth going through the whole dispute process just for $5.

I'll probably just do as they want so I can get my money back, and then report them to Aliexpress who will hopefully take some sort of action.

Thanks once again guys, you all deserve gold stars 👍🏻 🙂

  • Aliexpress are hard on the stores with bad ratings. But so they should be! Chinese customer service is sub-par! I would rate them honestly! They have to give your money back either way you rate them. Or else Aliexpress will get your money back for you. Just show the messages and the store will be banned from selling on there because they asked you to change your reply.

  • seller from Aliexpress contacted me and asked me to cancel order as they could not source phone at the price I ordered at.I thought I would as they were being honest with me,but I was refunded $3.00 odd less than what I had paid. Might have been a difference in exchange rate or a fee for cancelling I don't know.

  • I would just help out the store and be done with the cancellation/transaction. It's no problem on my end as long as I get a full refund and if it helps them out then thats good as well. I don't feel like I have been a 'victim' in these cases, no business is perfect, mistakes happen and out of many transactions (100+) on Aliexpress I have only had 2 issues. I have less issues with Aliexpress than with ebay.
