ALDI Crane Road Bike $399 Starts 13th July

1380

From the picture it looks like a pretty darn good looking bike. Componentry won't impress bike snobs but is really pretty decent enough.

CARBON FIBER FORK And Internal Cabling at this price point!! Those are what surprised me when I read their description.

There's no mention of weights on their marketing materials but I doubt it would be total rubbish in that department.

IMHO - a pretty flash-looking beginner road bike that won't break the bank.

Sure did, no risk, no reward, it's the OzBargain way.

        • pretty big risk if the torque specs are not calibrated correctly, you think you're applying 6nm but instead you're applying 15nm and you crack carbon parts….

        • easy come easy go

  • Where I can i get best price for a good pump and repair bike stand?

My current pump does not let me go beyond 80 psi. At 80 psi the air starts blowing from the pump.

  • I just came across a very nice video:

How much speed can you buy?

hi guys - following up on this one, as you can all see GTR4N is the man, he's the guy I used in Auburn, Sydney to build my bike last night :)

Super happy and could not have met a nicer guy. Honestly, a top bloke, knows his stuff, works out of his garage after hours and really is doing a community service for the price charged to build the bike and get rid of all the noise and stuff I'd struggle with after many hours of YouTube due to his experience.

I'm not sure of the OzB rules, but you can google this services, or simple type "GT Garage Bicycle Mechanic" on gumtree.

    Several areas Garry covered were:
    - Brakes needed tightening and alignment
    - front derailleur was off (on all the Aldi bikes he'd built)
    - adjustments to suit my height etc (wanted a comfortable position due to back)
    - gearing etc
    - overall bike setup

An hour later we were test riding the bike on local streets!

Thanks Garry - much appreciated. Highly recommended for anyone in Sydney!

  • Aldi pump - need to get one guys, do any of your local Aldo stores still have any in stock? My one is out of stock….thanks heaps!

    • I think it is gone in most of the stores. I've got pump from Kmart for $15 and I can say that it is very capable pump and goes easy to 110 psi.

If not happy, you can always return it back.

    • Plenty of stock of the pumps and road bikes in the Warilla NSW store this evening.

      • Thanks Stewy! Fantastic except it's 1.5hrs away for me after googling it… Prob cost me the same in fuel lol.

Do appreciate it and thank you for remembering my request!

  • There's still a couple of these left at my Aldi. What did you guys find for size? I'm 177cm so the medium (53cm) is up to 180cm and the large (56cm) is from 175cm not sure what size to get …. ?

    • The medium, is the size for you.

      • Probably best to try some road bikes out at a bike shop for size before you decide, just to be sure.

        • Try bike shop bikes then go to buy at Aldi? That's nice. Should he tell the bike shop in advance he is just there to try it for the size with no intention to buy?

        • +1

Sure why not? It would give them an opportunity to explain why he should buy a bike from them instead.
He is in the market for a bike, so how can going to a bike shop to look at other bikes hurt? That's what they are there for. It would be crazy not to really.
He might even see something else that he prefers or come back to buy parts/service one day.

    • LOL. Read the highlighted specs here, carbon fork and internal cabling! That Reid bike has none of these and 7 speed! Similar price but not similar specs.

  • Ok, I have an issue with a chainring which does not go in a straight line. As a result I can't perfectly adjust the front derailleur.
    https://youtu.be/M7-EQn1VYkc

    • That doesn't look good, something is bent. You might want to return it.

    • The one I got had the same issue, chain ring appeared to be warped. You could try pull it off from the shaft and try it in one of the other positions, however I didn't have the required tools and just returned it. I figured if their quality control was this poor then the bike was just going to cause me grief in the long term…

    • pretty much the only non-shimano part in drivetrain and it is bad. Mine got the same problem, I do not really want to return it though :(

Have you fixed it or just returned the bike?

      • +1

I wrote to [email protected], explained the problem in words (no youtube), they asked a frame serial number and address and suggested it is broken "spider" but I said that was a broken chainwheel which they posted straight away, got it last week, replaced, problem solved.

        So. Aldi customer support exists.

When do you think they put them on sale?

Then it would the real value more money bike.

    • I asked a employee there and he said items are usually put up for clearance withing 8 weeks of their launch. He did say that this timeframe varies between different products and different stores so you might have to just keep checking. Last i checked, they were sold out at Broadway and a few large left at Warringah mall (sydney).

    • I'm hoping for the same thing. I've kept my eye on a couple at my local store that are still sitting there …. waiting for the price reduced to snap one up.

      • They've still got some of the bikes available in some stores? And here I was thinking about a week ago that they were all sold out within the first few hours of the first day. Stupid me, I could have got one back then if I called different stores! :(

  • Any of these still available in adelaide stores?

  • Actually I think road bike helmets and air pumps were more popular than the bicycles themselves :)

  • Do you think they'll bring more back?

One of my local stores, in Wyoming, still had 7 on the floor yesterday.

anyone see any stock in sydney?

    • Yes please do let us know if anyone see's any in Sydney
I'm keen to get one lol

      • +2

Not Sydney, but my local still had 4 this arvo. Cardiff. Probably a good thing my wife was home while I was doing the shopping and I wouldn't have had a chance to bury it in the pile of bikes when I got home

        • +1

A pile of bikes? How many exactly do you have?

        • +2

@wtfnodeal: I've got 5 of varying styles to choose from in rideable condition, plus kids bikes, plus a few in need of parts/repair.

  • Does anyone know if stores still have stock in VIC? SE suburbs?
