  • gah I paid $600 for this :( good price op!

  • I have a 5820k which I picked up for $480. Not worth the cost for a 10% improvement. But if I was building my pc now I'd jump on this!

    • +16

Conversely, if you jump on your 5820K (preferably with shoes on), you will have the opportunity to buy this 6800K.

  • I have checked the TechMi website. it looks like very unreliable… only 11 items posted & no company address

    • And most things are out of stock

    • +1

I purchased a i7-6700 about 3 weeks ago from techmi
Website does look a bit dodgy but I received the CPU the next day via courier
Can't argue with results I say

  • +1

I wish Intel didn't stagger the release of HEDT processors so much compared to desktop class..

  • +1

    How is $550 from $700 40% off??

    • +1

      40% off shipping.

      • Nope - standard shipping is $10

Still don't see how this is 40% off

        Even at RRP of $849, it's $509

  • Is this compatible with:
    1) H/Z170 or X99 mobo only?
    2) DDR4 288-pin DIMM?

    Cooler Not Included

I thought every Intel CPU comes with stock cooler. Can those who bought i7-6800K confirm this?

If a stock cooler is included, then perhaps this deal is selling 2nd hand?

    • +6

The K (overclockable) models won't come with a cooler anymore.

      • +1

Only compatible with the new X99 updated motherboards and DDR4

  • +1

    These are 849 aud rrp.

6800k is the best value compared to 6900k and 6950k as you can easily beat the $1500 cpus buy overclocking this.

    This needs x99 chipset.

This is the best overclockable cpu.

    • Hi Rep,
Is this item brand new and manufactured sealed?
What is the delivery time frame?

      • YES. All our ITEMS ARE BRAND NEW SEALED.

Pls check out our previous deals on ozbargain using the search.

It will be shipped same day. Usually 1 - 3 days depending on where you are.

    • lol your website says it's 699 though :P and that means the discount is actually around 21%

  • Hmm, this or 6700K build? Mainly for gaming (BF4 & soon BF1) and running an OS X virtual machine or hackintosh..

    • +6

You'd save a lot of money going 6700k with z170. For gaming you'd struggle to notice the difference. Put the extra money into a GTX 1070 or 1080.

        • +5

          Are you being serious?

Name some games that utilize 6 cores.

Feel free to reference the specific articles that say a "6700k won't 'tax' a 1080"

        • +2

@zeggie: sounds like he's making it up to make a sale lol. In some benchmarks I checked, the 6700 actually performs better than 6800 (by fractions of a frame per second)

        • That's (somewhat) bollocks.

          Backtracking to @daffo's requirements:

          1. For a hackintosh, skylake has better support than X99
          2. Even in this day & age, not that many titles are well optimized for more than 2 or 4 cores. Single-thread performance still gives you an edge. As @Drpepper666 stated, 6700k vs 6800k in gaming is a wash … with the 6700k coming out ahead in some benches. The 6700k is skylake architecture, whereas 6700k is broadwell (basically haswell shrunk to 14nm, with some tweaks)

I have a 6-core X99 build and you'd have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands - but its not necessarily the best build for everyone.

        • lol mate, your prices are good so you don't have to bullshit! For games, 6700k will almost always perform better until such time we see a game that utilizes more than 4 cores effectively and efficiently. In fact, the higher clock rate in 6700k (stock or ocd, 6700k will overclock higher) will make it a better choice for gamers. Don't get me wrong, I love my 6800k but my use cases are different so there's that!

        • +1

          Get rekt.

        • @qwijibo, @enzioFirenze: could you let us know how you built your x99? I'm looking at an x99 hex core for a video editing suite but haven't been into building a PC for a few years so a bit out of the loop….

    • +1

I have a i7-6700k overclock to 4.5GHz (heatsink) its not that great for multitasking you be better off saving money with an i5 or if you want to get the maximum potential of performance go with the X99. I had problems since day one with the USB drivers on my skylake Z170 Asus motherboard, tech support were not that helpful.

  • How many cores?

  • If you're running virtual machines, check the chip specs carefully. Many of the K series CPUs have VT-d disabled (IO VM speedup).

    • This one seems to have it enabled Intel I7-6800k

    • All K CPUs since Haswell, that I've seen, have VT-d, and the socket 2011 CPUs have always had VT-d.

But this may even be niche for those running VMs, unless you plan to dedicate harddisks to VMs or similar.

  • X99 based cpu have nothing disabled.

  • Best price which I have seen! The cheapest motherboard so far is this one - http://www.msy.com.au/pc-components/14444-asrock-x99-extreme… (NSW only but can delivery anywhere in Australia). My only advice in this cpu is that is not so great to overclock (4.4ghz com a liquid cooling vs 4.6ghz 6700k) and the power compulsion is very high! I would say as well that this chip is older than the chip found at 6700k (skylake vs Broadwell). Clock by clock, considering that the skylake 6700k is cheaper, more economic compulsion, colder, faster and the motherboard 1151 is cheaper and easy to find I would recommend a 6700k for games. And dont forget this CPU has only 28 lanes. It means that SLI or CROSSFIRE will run at 8x/8x the same that 6700k (z170). Finally, in coming the new 7700k will arrive (around november) and will be even faster than skylake.

When I look at the product there is a huge banner saying don't buy it here, buy it from mwave…OK if you say so.

    • +1

Oh man that's the biggest banner i've ever seen too! It goes on for about 8 pages worth of scrolling. Mind boggled as to why that is there…

    • +1

LOL! Do you have a screenshot?

  • How does this compare performance and value wise to other 6 core cpus? I need to upgrade my rig for 4k video editing (premiere pro, no games) but can't work out which hex core CPU would provide the best performance/value at the moment. I'll be OC'ing with water. Currently on an i7 960 @ 4.3 air.

We hotlined their image. Rookie mistake.

    Sorry bout that

Price looks amazing, I'm gonna grab one of these before they run out of stock.
