Dubious bargain. Demonstrators should be cheaper than a new car anyway. Seems more like advertising to me.

    • Agree!!

8k of an $80,000 BASE model car is NOT a bargain… would we be here if we could afford $100,000 cars!

        • +1

Damo, if you are here long enough you will save enough to buy the BMW - LOL

Although I guess the longer you are here, the less likely you would waste your money on one. A Yaris or Getz is probably the go

But seriously where did you get this $80K. BMW's start at $38K, and this deal says minimum 8K so if it belongs to that its 20% off. You have made an assumption that could be very wrong.

          • @[Deactivated]: good point ozpete 10% off rrp for demo not a good bargain however if 10% of RRP for new price it is a bargain

      • Nicky - you are new, but it is wise to read the rules and guidelines in this community - see

        Negative revoked

Now if this was BMW's for $8,000 that would be a bargain ;)

    • $8,000 Beamers will probably cost you another $8,000 every year or two just to keep it on the road :P

  • I really don't think Ozbargain crowd is their target market :)

  • 10% off its not a great bargain

    • Well maybe, maybe not, do you know what discounts can be got for BMW's? If so would you like to share? Have you read the voting guidelines Wiki? and not being "great" isn't a real reason for a negative vote

      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines

As it stands your vote is marginal (but stands). See the section in the wiki

      1. Pricing is always subjective. A $1 off a $500 item isn’t much of a bargain, but on a $3 item it is. But then again to some a $3 item is junk so anything off isn’t a bargain. So really negative votes purely based on pricing requires caution. Are you imposing your set of values on another in the community?
  • A lot of unfair stereotyping here… lets have a vote, how many people here drive an euro car?

    Me!

I think the idea, that people on Oz Bargain are unable to afford expensive items, simply isn't true. The desire to save money off everyday purchases, doesn't imply that the individual is poor!

You are correct in saying that this is not a very good bargain.

  • Who would buy a car at manufacturer's RRP anyway. Every car dealer reduces Demo's by a percentage anyway.. So where's my bargain for this one..?

  • Sometimes a demonstrator can have virtually no kms, ie. less than a few hundred. For a guaranteed minimum 8k off the sticker price, it's not bad, especially on lower-end models where there is less room to move.

FWIW, I drive a BMW and visit OZBargain on a regular basis =) But I don't think it saves me any money… probably spend more on things that I otherwise wouldn't buy, if not for the 'bargain' aspect.

    • Agreed.. I picked up an 'ex-demo' which had 80 km on the clock, saved quite a lot off it too.

      • Lol yeah but was it an "executive driven" 80km? I've seen executives drive, and it ain't pretty, let alone when they are evaluating a potential purchase.

Also, I wonder what the * means next to the MINIMUM $8,000? Maybe only certain ex-demos are included, ie not the 80km ones?

This smacks of free advertising. 10% off for an "executive driven" demonstrator isn't a bargain.

  • Hey You all! Beemers are also known to be VERY expensive to service (source Herald Sun Friday Car's guide). I drive a Renault LAguna 2002 (RACV's then CAr of the year), and it isn't cheap to run either on average 300-500 for a standard service, and 800.00- over1K for 'major' ones. Love the Car but hate having it serviced. Although I do shop around and pit one service centre against the other. I wonder if Volvo, Saabs, Citroen and Peugeots are also this expensive???

  • As for some of the negative votes here - watch it, you are borderline on your voting. You can post opinions but just because you don't like beemers, negatives aren't a valid vote. Leave this post for those who like beemers. We can assume those who buy BMW's are aware of the cost issues that they face and have made that choice. Voting down a deal because the product doesn't suit your life style is akin to censorship and not fair for others here.

Now everyone is following damo's comment that its 10% off. Using a mythical $80000 price. BMW's start as low as $38000, so if we use that then it's 20% off. And since most here aren't in the market, why not leave this post alone for someone who is. Boy if I was in the market fora $40K car and got 8K off I might be p'd that you above all voted this down so missed that deal. And why - so you can be a little clever and show off what?

    Read the guidelines http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines

Now the above is to do with voting NOT comments. Do you realise that too many negative votes hides the deal from others? If not, just be kind to others in the community here and read the guidelines and understand what you are doing.

And while this is under ozf1's comment its not directed specifically at that comment
