Can't Get Rid of Squatter

So this drug addict in an unregisted car with no number plates, a totally flat tyre and car that does not start, somehow rolled it into my apartment complex carpark and has put it in the corner and is living out of it. He is littering everywhere, just loitering around and sleeping in the car, right outside my apartment. I feel very uncomfortable about this and I am worried for my safety, the safety of my belongings in my house and also my vehicle. I called the cops and they say they will not do anything, he is not breaking any laws, the carpark is council property and he can stay there as long as he wants!

How do I get rid of this scumbag?

Well he's obviously come into your life for a reason… maybe you need to learn something or perhaps not be so quick to judge people so harshly, as you once typed that I must be like 99% of girls who are after a man for their money! Mate… you are big on ASSUMING!

This has happened to me back in Europe. Police wouldn't touch him. I politely asked him to leave. He was just swearing at me. A couple of days after that I just took a rope and towed his car around 100m away, dumped it very close to busy intersection and never seen him or his car again…

Give to him $100…he will do the rest…

I'm glad he's out of the driveway now. It's frustrating how bad the authorities are at managing these people. I had a homeless guy sleeping at my local tram stop for almost a year. He was a big guy and he started exposing himself to people (including myself) but the cops said they couldn't do anything because they never caught him in the "act", had spoken to him and he had mental illness and was homeless by choice/didn't want help. Wtf! I told the cops I was so scared and their suggestion was to use another tram stop! Every day going to work I feared for my safety as I wasn't sure if he would do something crazy. It took Yarra trams to solve the problem by putting raised metal arm rests/dividers along the bench seats so it was impossible to lie down.

I have full sympathy for people with mental illness and who have been through troubles that have led to homelessness but leaving these people to survive on their own on the streets while allowing them to threaten the comfort and security of others is plain wrong! The state should reopen all the mental institutions they closed down so there is a proper place for people to get the help and support they need in a secure, medicated environment with 3 meals a day and a roof over their heads.

Trouble is that the services around at the moment for housing the homeless with mental disorders are full up with no spare beds available. Services are so stretched that at most only the serious get 3 days and then they have to go somewhere else. It is about $ funding to pay for qualified staff.

I recently watched Billy Connolly Tracks Across America.

In ep 1, he visits a homeless camp just outside Seattle. It's not perfect, but they live in relative safety. They have more than you'd expect too — even a makeshift internet cafe.

They also have the one thing no institution can offer them. Their dignity.

  • He is moving away - very gradually! He is not right out the front on the road anymore. I thought he got towed but then I saw he just rolled it another 50m down the road and around the corner lol. This is obviously his MO, set up camp in front of someone's place until they crack the shits then roll down the road a bit, back to step 1… Repeat, repeat, repeat.
