Stranger's Car Parked on My Parking Lot - What Would You Do?

So, I drove home today to find that someone has parked their car on my designated parking lot.
I live in an apartment building complex, so my first thought was to call the building management to arrange for the car to be towed away.
Unfortunately it's already late at night, so their office is closed.

Any bright ideas what can be done in this situation?

Park in their spot and sort it out tomorrow.

    • I would have if I know where it is..

Similar situation has happened to me. Passive aggressive notes on the windscreen tend to scare people away from ever doing it again, but always contact your building manager to ascertain the right course of action.

Yeah, write a really polite note telling them it's your car-space. And not to park there.

Pop a blank envelope to your note and tell them if they wish to keep parking there, they're welcome. Just pop $50 into the envelope every time they park in your spot and pop the envelope under your unit door.

    What an absolute hide…..

start ringing the intercom bell for each apartment and say that the car is on fire. That'll get someone moving.

Or Call a tow company and ask them.

Scratch them a polite note on their bonnet. I guarantee they will never park there again…

Park behind his/her car and leave a note to see you.

    • This is what a mate of mine did when someone at the local school parked in their drive way to walk their kid to the gates.
Made sure to take a long time to move the car afterwards too.

    • I'd be blocking the way for other ppl if I do that unfortunately.

First make sure owner is not 2m height 120kg weight full of tattoos and beard and wear leather vest.

    • Hmm maybe he needed to park his car somewhere while he's out riding his bike

Warning note the first time, then next time get it towed.

  • Notes then buy a clamp

      oops.. wrong post!

  • Take it easy on the offender, could be that the same thing has happened to them, someone has parked in their spot causing them to spill over into yours. Unlikely but possible. Don't resort to damage or threats, they know where your car lives. A firm and polite note requesting that they don't do this and informing them that they have been reported to building management will suffice.

You'll end up parking in someone else's spot as a result. Leaving an apology note on your windscreen with a contact number will save that tenant the problem you are experiencing.

Just because it happened to them doesn't mean they have the right to do it themselves.
Why force your problems onto someone else?

      • Absolutely agree. There is no right to do the wrong thing.

However all the retribution in the world doesn't solve the immediate problem as to what the OP was to do with their car with no allocated space to park in. They either find a space in the building car park and hope the owner of that space is not inconvenienced or vindictive, or they park off premises which could be very difficult in some cities.

Yes I agree, I'm not going to damage their car or anything.
And no, I am not as inconsiderate as this person to take someone else's spot.

I actually had to go out and circle around to find parking on the street since our visitor car space was full as well.

Building mgt wasn't really helpful. Called them this morning and all they can tell us is leave a note, and hope the car will drive away in the afternoon.

If we wanted to have it towed away, it has to be on our own expense..

        • I can't stand when people park in other's designated spot. I'm surprised building management wouldn't have a standard notice they can put on the car for you. Maybe suggest that they have that available as a notice from the building will likely be more effective than from an individual.

You bought/leased your spot. You pay body corporate.

The body corporate is meant to manage these problems. If it is a company handling your body corporate, call them to address two problems - building manager doesn't want to work and your spot has been taken.

That's a very poor response from building management. I think rather than spend money on a tow truck I'd buy a couple of pairs of these

And relocate the offending vehicle to building management's spot.

Lot's of fun to be had wheeling the nuisance vehicle into unlikely and difficult places.

          @uzz30:
This is the most creative idea so far! I'd seriously consider this if I keep encountering repeat offenders ;p

Smear your poo under their door handle.

  • Buy a bollard tomorrow. Dynabolts are you friend.
