I also had enough of umbrellas that failed to withstand wind not much stronger than a fart!

After doing heaps of research online 'Blunt' umbrellas seemed to come up the most for one of the strongest/quality umbrellas out there.

Although not cheap, 'Blunt' umbrellas are worth paying the premium for - https://www.bluntumbrellas.com/au/#

I've got one of the XS Metro & 2x of the Golf-G1's.

  • Shelta also make decent umbrellas. I have one from them that has slits halfway up the sail? so wind can still escape easily.

    • Shelta are ok. They used to be better a few decades ago, but they remain much better than $10 supermarket umbrellas. Expect to pay $25, I get mine from the local chemist. I have had 2 in the last 5 years. The first needed to be re-stitched where the cover came away from the spokes a couple of times, easy enough. One of my kids has it now.
The second is still going strong after a couple of years.

  • Recommend a Doppler branded one: https://www.dopplerschirme.com/de/regen/doppler
    Made out of carbon steel.

Or a senz: https://www.senz.com/en/ They have the special design that makes them storm proof which is also good for keeping your back dry as they're longer at the back.

    • Where can we buy a Doppler in Melbourne

      • It'll have to be bought online. Amazon?

    • I love the Senz design, but the compact ones just don't last, unfortunately. I've had two start to have problems after a couple of years. Maybe the full-size/non-folding ones are better.

Gonna try a Blunt next, I think.

  • Umbrellas from golfing stores/sporting stores tend to be good quality and durable. They are probably all large sized though.

  • I think the earlier comment about Blunt is on the money. However, the best ten dollar jobs are the ones at Aldi. You would have to go through half a dozen to even up with a blunt umbrella, and that would take a very, very long time. The ALDI ones aren't too bad.

    • Hope they will stock up soon. Haven't seen recently.

  • "The Home" website currently have "Senz" umbrellas on special. They are also shaped differently (aerodynamically !) so as not to collapse in the wind. They claim to be the the strongest brollie around. I've not had one but my sister does & she always spruiks their wonder.

    • Are there fakes? Some on eBay are surprisingly cheap.
