Help with DIY LCD screen replacement on Sanyo Xacti camcorder

I cracked the LCD in my Sanyo Xacti CG-10 a couple of years ago and was going to throw out the whole thing but when I found a replacement LCD on eBay for about $13 shipped today I decided to try and fix it myself.

However, when I opened the LCD enclosure, I found that the broken LCD is plugged into the board with a fastener that I can't figure out how to release.
It's wedged in there good and tugging doesn't budge it.
Any ideas how to release the LCD?

See the attached picture I took. The problematic area is in a red box.

P.S. I know the camcorder is obsolete but it has sentimental value and I can still find uses for it if I can get the LCD working.
Incidentally the unit still records video but without the LCD there are a lot of settings I can't get to.
I'm happy to take advice but If anyone in Melbourne who is handy with electronics would like to help me with this in person, I'll buy them lunch.
It looks like a two-minute job once you know how to release the LCD from the board.

  • Yep, Just like in the video above. Be careful, it will be quite easy to do but the connectors are delicate. In your case you need to flick up the black hinged bar on the white connector. Best if you put a fingernail or a small flat jeweler's screwdriver under it, preferably at each end and flip it up. That will release the pressure on the ribbon cable and it will slide out. Replace the part and assembly is the reverse. Slot the cable back in and push it under the connectors, you will go in about 2mm or so, then push down on the black bar and it will snap shut and hold the cable snugly. Be careful you don't break the black hinged bit off otherwise the connector is useless and it is a major job finding a replacement and replacing it.
